Topps adds Twitter handles to football card backs

Social Media and sports go hand-in-hand. Fans react to sports news and games through their Twitter accounts. They post pictures of their collections on Facebook.
Inserts have also popped up in trading card sets showcasing a player’s Twitter handle.
Topps has made it even easier to interact with football players and teams by adding Twitter handles to card backs for each player. If a player has a Twitter handle, it’s sure to be there. For teams, Topps includes the official team name.
It’s an interesting concept for Topps to include these on nearly all base cards. It makes for an easy marketing technique that the card can just sit back and watch.
Think of this way, you pull a card of your favorite player, post a picture to Twitter and include his Twitter name because it’s right there on the back of a card. If you’re lucky, the player will RT or reply – thus showing off the Topps cards for all of their followers and building awareness.
All the work for Topps came in compiling the list, researching 440 players to see if they had a Twitter account. Now along with knowing their height, weight, college, draft pick, birthday and hometown, you will also know where to tweet the players.
