Remember when we used to joke about White being the bad color in Commander? We’d laugh about how our biggest play was gaining three life while the Simic player drew half their deck and ramped to 12 lands, but not anymore!

We are living in the White renaissance. Between the Phyrexian invasion a couple of years back and the absolute heaters we got in 2025 with Final Fantasy and Avatar: The Last Airbender, Mono-White is making its mark in Commander.

Here are my picks for the top five Mono-White commanders dominating the meta right now.

Heliod, Sun-Crowned

Since his debut in Theros Beyond Death, Heliod has been the gatekeeper of high-power white decks.

He’s indestructible, hard to remove, and acts as a two-card combo machine in the command zone.

The game plan is simple but lethal, just pair him with Walking Ballista.

Give the Ballista lifelink with Heliod’s ability, ping an opponent, gain life, put a counter back on the Ballista, and repeat until the table is dust. It’s clean, efficient, and brutal.

Giada, Font of Hope

For years, building an Angel deck felt cool in theory, but way too slow. Giada helped change that. A two-mana 2/2 flyer that ramps and buffs your team? That is efficient design at its finest.

Giada has only gotten better with age. The recent release of Avatar: The Last Airbender gave us Momo, Friendly Flier, a Legendary Lemur that acts like a Sol Ring for flying creatures.

Dropping a Momo on turn one into a Giada on turn two is a curve that just feels great.

If you love slamming big, beautiful flying mythics like Avacyn, Angel of Hope or the new Aerith Gainsborough, Giada is a great way to do it.

Cloud, Midgar Mercenary

When Final Fantasy dropped back in June, we knew Cloud would be popular, but I don’t think we realized he would completely displace old favorites like Sram or Balan.

Cloud is fantastic for Equipment decks. He tutors for a piece of equipment when he enters, grab your Lightning Greaves or Skullclamp immediately, and then doubles all trigger abilities on him or his gear.

The synergy here is wild. Equipping him with the Sword of Feast and Famine means you’re untapping your lands twice and forcing double discards.

Plus, if you were lucky enough to pull a Serialized Limit Break version of Cloud, you’re sitting on one of the holy grails of 2025 collecting.

Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines

Sometimes, you don’t want to make friends. Sometimes, you want to make the table groan. Enter Elesh Norn. She doubles your enter-the-battlefield triggers and completely shuts off your opponents.

In a year defined by powerful enter-the-battlefield effects from the Avatar and Final Fantasy sets, shutting them down is stronger than ever.

She turns a simple Solitude into a double-exile spell and stops your opponents’ Dockside Extortionists dead in their tracks.

Just be warned, playing her basically puts a target on your back. Make sure you pack plenty of protection spells like Teferi’s Protection or the new Airbender Ascension.

Appa, Steadfast Guardian

November gave us the best bison a boy could wish for, and Appa has quickly become one of my favorites.

This card introduces the Airbending mechanic, which is a flavorful twist on blinking. Instead of just flickering things, Appa exiles them and lets you cast them later for a flat two mana.

This is a value engine that feels distinct from the usual Azorius blink strategies. You can Airbend expensive artifacts or creatures to save them from a board wipe, then cast them for cheap on your next turn to trigger all your Cast from Exile payoffs.

Plus, creating an army of Ally tokens makes Ocelot Pride go absolutely nuts.
