5. Ride of the Valkyries
Shadows in Valhalla introduces the long-awaited Valkyrie archetype from one of the last seasons in the original Yu-Gi-Oh anime. Ride of the Valkyries is the first part of the major combo that Valkyries can perform. It allows the player to special summon as many Valkyrie-type monsters from their hand as they wish. Then you can banish it from your graveyard to search your deck for a copy of the Mischief of the Time Goddess. This is an extremely important card in any Valkyrie deck and will need to be used as a three-of.
4. Mischief of the Time Goddess
The next key card for the Valkyrie archtype is Mischief of the Time Goddess. This card allows you to skip to your next turn’s battle phase at the end of your current battle phase. This essentially allows you to attack twice. You can also negate any negative effects that occur against you during the end phase (specifically Ride of the Valkyries effect). This card can be searched by Ride of the Valkyries. Be careful, though. It can be a bit dead if you don’t have enough Valkyries on the field. As a result, most decks can probably get away with using two.
3. Ninja Grandmaster Saizo
Next up is Ninja Grandmaster Saizo, the Ninja archetype. It receives a large amount of support as well in this set, and Saizo is potential the best one. He is a link 2 monster with 2000 ATK that can set up more plays by casting Ninjitsu art spells and traps. He also has built-in protection as long as he is pointing towards other monsters. This is a great card for Ninjas and having a solid link monster helps them out a lot in today’s meta game.
2. All the Reprints!
Outside of introducing new cards, Shadows in Valhalla has some amazing competitive reprints for players, including: Mermail Abyssmegalo, Invoked Mechaba, Windwitch – Ice Bell, Twin Twisters, Shaddoll Fusion, Gem-Knight Seraphinite, Aleister the Invoker, El Shaddoll Winda, Cyberdark Impact, and, the most important reprint, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Even if you are not interested in the new cards, these reprints are more than enough to get a lot of the player base wanting to crack open this set.
1. Aleister the Invoker of Madness
Aleister is a huge support card for Invoked, allowing you to tutor out key spell cards from your deck each time a monster is fusion summoned. He also counts as Aleister the Invoker while on the field or graveyard, allowing you to use him as fusion material for all of your invoked monsters. Currently, Aleister is sitting around $35 and has claimed the number one spot as the most expensive card in the set.
