Question: What does a chiseled, massive, mountain of a man who stands 7-feet tall, weighs 305 pounds and can kick your head off collect?

Answer: Anything he wants.

Luckily for the “cool” image of our industry, Total Nonstop Action wrestling superstar Matt Morgan collects sports trading cards. Old ones. New ones. Baseball ones. Wrestling ones. You name it.

In an exclusive interview Monday to promote the release of TRISTAR’s new 2009 TNA Impact set, Morgan unabashedly revealed that he’s been a collector since 1982 (when he was 6) and that he counts his 1969 Topps Mickey Mantle among his most cherished cards.

Some of his other favorites include 1955 Topps Willie Mays, 1969 Topps Nolan Ryan, 1982 Topps Cal Ripken Jr., 1989 Upper Deck Ken Griffey Jr., 1975 Topps Roger Staubach, 1972 Topps Carlton Fisk and 1986-87 Fleer Michael Jordan.

All of his key singles, it must be noted, are tucked securely away in a bank safety deposit box.

Morgan – nickname “The Blueprint” with finishing moves such as “The Carbon Footprint” and the “Hellevator” – was born in Connecticut and grew up idolizing Yankees legend Don Mattingly.

The former college basketball player and WWE performer also happens to be an avid Beckett reader. He’s had a subscription for the last eight years and also admits to buying an extra copy of some Beckett titles on occasion so that he can get one autographed.

(Note to self: Make sure Matt Morgan gets complimentary subscriptions to any Beckett titles he wants going forward.)

As for the brand new 2009 TRISTAR TNA Impact set, Morgan’s favorite card is a no-brainer. It’s his base card in the set, #18 for those checklisting at home. But he’s also high on the TNA Knockouts Kiss cards, the always-interesting Then & Now subset cards and the history-making Sting Face Paint cards.

Find out what else Morgan had to say later today, when we post his full-length Collect Call video segment.

Until then, enjoy this impromptu Morgan card gallery.
