Macbreakers

By Chris Olds | Beckett Sports Card Monthly Editor

Group-breaking is a force in today’s hobby, combining various technology and social media platforms to transform opening boxes of cards into an interactive experience and an event — whether you land something cool or not.

It’s the new virtual card shop, the new eBay, the new game-changer, in that it’s perhaps helping change the hobby as we know it today by drawing in collectors and allowing them to shred wax boxes like never before while connecting with other collectors and dealers to find what they need.

We’ve let collectors speak here at Beckett.com/news about which group-breakers they use and trust to help compile The List — 50 Breakers to Know.

Note: This list is far from comprehensive — and breakers are listed in no particular order. Some are larger and established, some might not be there just yet. Explore The List and see if you think there’s one that’s right for you.

See them all … after the jump.

Is Bateson not listed twice under rippingwax and nasty? Figure one’s a subset of the other, especially since he’s mentioned in both the endorsements.

Odd to see some people make the list like KAB and Beckett auctions (…) without endorsements, but it is your article at the end of the day.

Glad to see everyone on my list make it…except for Ripandlist, so I’m curious about that. Heck, he was listed twice in the poll for the last article but no mention here with the number of eBay breaks he does daily?

And platinum? Ugh, think I could have made it if I did what they did and I don’t even do group breaks.

  2. chrisolds 12 December, 2014 at 13:11

There is always a chance that the list could evolve/update in days before goes to print. That WAS one of the points of posting online first.

  3. Nicholas L. 12 December, 2014 at 14:13

See Kab was taken off. Shouldn’t breakers.tv be there instead of cardworldtv or is CCX now writing this article?

  4. Mark 12 December, 2014 at 14:54

The listed “endorser” for Breakaway may be questionable, but I cannot disagree with the comment. Never a problem with them. Shipping can be a little wonky, but I think that is a border issue, not a problem with Breakaway.

  5. Derp 12 December, 2014 at 15:08

So a website that hosts breaks makes the list but NOT a breaker that TOPPED YOUR POLL?? Boomo’s Breaks should be on your list. Otherwise it’s a massive fail.

  6. chrisolds 12 December, 2014 at 15:33

Nobody ever said that the 20 Questions poll was going to dictate The List.

Sorry to all those who stuffed the ballot box with that notion in mind.

  7. Mike Price 12 December, 2014 at 15:49

Certainly have to agree, BH35portscards is one of the absolute best I have come across, with Nastybreaks ranking right up there, these guys are entertaining, honest, and super at what they do!!!!! Keep up the fantastic work Bryan and Scot.

  8. mike 12 December, 2014 at 16:45

Boomo doesn’t deserve to be a top 50 breaker. He has his “crowd” vote over and over making fake votes by changing IP address

  9. TripleCrown24 12 December, 2014 at 16:56

I’m very glad that everyone’s opinion was tossed aside who voted in that poll. I mean after all, why do we need the people who actually buy into breaks to tell us who to break with? Even Topps would laugh at this kind of customer service.

  10. Dave 12 December, 2014 at 18:21

Cloutsnchara are always pulling great stuff but sorry to say are big complainers about other breakers.
and they overcharge for boxes. (way to high)

  11. Dave 12 December, 2014 at 18:23

Hey Boomo sounds like CnC. They have the same people over and over and over and over again. Not to mention they overcharge for their boxes. Why can’t buyers see that they are over paying?

  12. boomo 12 December, 2014 at 18:55

i told no one to vote for me. breaking would not be where it is today without some of the things i
achieved. chris olds you are just stupid. and you are college educated correct? i ask u to email me and explain my omission.

  13. Matt H 13 December, 2014 at 01:51

Glad to see RynemCaseBreaks on this list. Broke with him for first time this week at boxbusters.tv/rynem and I don’t think any one handles their business as well as him in a break. Bump him up the list!!

  14. Natalie Parvin 13 December, 2014 at 08:51

Hi Chris! Just wanted to thank you for putting this together. It was AWESOME to see Top Cut Breaks and my husband highlighted on Beckett News! He works so hard with his breaking business in addition to a full time job. He always is there for his customers who he now thinks of as friends. He always wanted to be a sports announcer and this is the next best thing. I’m so proud of him and Top Cut Breaks as well as all the other hard working breakers!

  15. Jason 13 December, 2014 at 08:53

Well I really am not sure how this list was compiled but, it seems to be a little off. Would love to know what the criteria for this list is?. A few of these Breakers barely break or have been involved in some shady transactions without naming names or getting into details. I have broken with a few in this list: CCX and Friendly the most, with great experiences with both of them. STL once, a little on the pricey side but the first break credit helped make it a decent deal and the shipping was fast. Firehand, I have heard many people who have had good experiences but, none of those being people who live in Canada due to Slow shipping on the Breaker’s end. I did Break with Clouts at one point but, was disappointed in their Prices and their opinions. Clouts has their minions and does have plenty to say about other Breakers. Have yet to hear them ever say anything Positive about another Breaker and appear to be more of a Destructive Force within the Community than a Top 50 Breaker. They do also have their Loyal supporters who on numerous occasions disrupt other Breakers, whether this is by encouragement or a rogue action is difficult to tell.
Broken many times with Box Breaking Buzz and extremely surprised he did not make the list. Fast Shipping, Great Fun Breaks, and honestly a nice guy to know in the Breaking Community. Canadian Cards is also another one, that has Great Breaks. Lots of Giveaways and reasonable Prices and donates thousands of Cards each Year to Local Toy Drives in which he includes numerous personal “hits” to give Kids a chance to collect. Their Packages are probably the Best Packed in the Industry and have yet to see anything the Post Office has been able to wreck.
As for the Boomo omission….I have never broken with him but I know of plenty of people who have and I have spent numerous hours watching breaks in his room. I think that omitting him, and including some less than known or suspect breakers does lend some doubts to this list.
Just think that the List needs a little more improvement and research before calling someone a “Top 50 Breaker” and have to wonder what the point of the earlier article and polls on Breaking was.

  16. Zach T. 13 December, 2014 at 12:17

It’s a shame that Boomo was left out of this list. It shows how little you know about breakers in general. My question is since you obviously know so little, why make a list in the first place. I mean, if you can’t show enough competence to put together a simple list or do any research on said list….just don’t do it.

BOOMO needs to be on this list. Hands down.

  17. Kirk Edwards 14 December, 2014 at 08:29

Up and coming breaker in the house……come check us out Chris. Looks like you might need a replacement breaker for your list. Thanks…..and Let’s Rip!!!!!!!

  18. Shaun Baus 15 December, 2014 at 15:13

I had always used Mojobreak for group breaks. Then they shipped my hits to someone else and gave me someone else’s hits. I had chosen my team so was thrilled to get the cards I was expecting to get, when I got cards from another team that I could care less about I was pretty disappointed. When I contacted them about the mishap I was ignored for like a month and at that point nothing could be done apparently. To me it felt like a simple fix when the mishap was first discovered upon receipt of items, although certainly complicated and frustrating, but they did not even acknowledge it for so long that I was just done with them and group breaking in general. Its been some time so hopefully they have become more efficient but just wanted to provide some negative feedback so people could make a more informed decision when choosing someone that hosts a group break.

  19. Ricardo 18 December, 2014 at 09:38

Iam doing Group Breaks every week too.

The Difference between me and other Group Breakers is that i do Group Breaks for Collectors from Europe.
Iam from Germany and we have many Collectors here who join my Group Breaks.

Of course its more expensive because of shipping and Custom Fees but people like it that they can have Live Breaks over here in Europe.Plus they receive their Cards much quicker then from US Breaks.

Iam not looking to make any Profit of it as i just want to give the Oversea Collectors the Opportunity to stay in the Hobby and have Fun in the Hobby. For most of us Collectors it would be a dream to go into Card Shops and search through cards. But sadly to say in Europe there are not many Card Shops as the Euopean People are watching other Sports like Soccer and Tennis instead of US Sports.

So if its possible i would love to get into the Top 50 Group Breakers List just to tell the people from Europe that there is a opportunity for Group Breaks in Europe and that they are gladly welcome to join my Breaks.

DCSPORTS87 LIVE BREAKS IS THE PLACE TO BREAK. THE GUYS TAKE CARE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS LIKE NO OTHER. FASTEST SHIPPING IN THE BIZZ AND PRICES ALWAYS AMAZING. CHEAPEST GROUP BREAKS IVE SEEN YET. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK GUYS!!!

  21. James c Browne 3 May, 2017 at 12:48

What are the costs through these groups for sending cards to Beckett and back to the groupbreakers and then back to you, Cardsmith Breaks would charge $16.00 for non-auto cards & $18.00 for autograph cards, but now they are reevaluate their policies because of Beckett raising the prices, any other groups out there doing this, just trying to save some money instead of doing it myself, thanks for the reply.

    • Ryan Cracknell 4 May, 2017 at 11:02

You’d need to talk with breakers to get their rates as they’re the ones who set them.

  22. Todd B. 9 May, 2017 at 08:55

I’d like to second the positive feedback expressed in this article for RyneMCaseBreaks. I stumbled into the world of group breaks about a year ago and have really enjoyed breaking with RyneMCaseBreaks since then. Ryan creates a really enjoyable breaking experience and always handles and ships cards quickly and with care. Highly recommend his room!

  23. Casey 9 May, 2017 at 10:28

Clint Anderson runs “Dude sports and displays” on Facebook and I can guarantee nobody out does him in price.

All of they breakers might be reliable but over charge constantly.

When bowman chrome came out and people were charging $170 for 1 break Reds hobby and/or jumbo.

He was charging $175 for TWO cases of jumbo.

Dude doesn’t do it for profit but because he enjoys the hobby. He also does razzes for 10 spots on hit parade instead of selling individual team where he could make $6-30 for just 1 team (30 teams) so instead of charging $200-$250 per bat and crappy odds (30 teams) he gives you the odds out of 10 per spot you buy at $14.50

Their super funny to boot!!! If you have a chance to check them out……..DOn’t miss out on THE BEST BREAKERS in the WORLD!! PICKLES

  27. Bigk 2 January, 2023 at 00:29

I think game changers sports cards should be on the list. Always great prices as well as doing giveaways on the Facebook group. He has had some great pulls this last month. People on the group are always saying how cheap his breaks are compared to others.
