The Daily: 2005 Upper Deck MLS Clint Dempsey
The Card: 2005 Upper Deck MLS Clint Dempsey #64
For more than a decade, Clint Dempsey has been on of the most prolific goal scorers on the planet. It didn’t matter if it was in the Premier League, MLS or on the international stage.
Yesterday, at the age of 35, Dempsey announced his sudden and immediate retirement.
Dempsey’s pro career began in 2004 with the New England Revolution. He’d spend three years with the team before heading overseas to the Premier League. Between 2007 and 2012, the Texan scored 50 goals for Fulham.
Dempsey spent a season with Tottenham Hotspur before returning to the MLS and the Seattle Sounders in 2013. In his second stint in the league, Dempsey helped Seattle win their first MLS Championship in 2016.
The prolific scorer was also a key part of the US Men’s National Team for more than a decade. He represented the United States as a member of the team’s roster from 2004 through 2017. He was the USMNT captain for the 2014 World Cup. Dempsey’s 57 international goals has him tied atop the USMNT leaderboard with Landon Donovan.
Besides a spot in the base set, Dempsey is also found in a Rookie Flashbacks insert set. The ultimate card, though, is a scarce MLS Signatures Clint Dempsey autograph card. Numbered to 25 copies, it sells for hundreds in the rare instances it shows up now.
