TCG Market Watch: Top Selling Recent Pokémon Cards
Curious on how well trading card games are financially doing on secondary sales platforms… really, really well. Speculators, collectors, and players alike are leaning into the market throwing plastic down on high-end cards, lots, and boxes. Within the realm of Pokémon, enthusiasts going after the rare and unique are dropping tens of thousands of dollars to get what they want.
Stretching back over the past three months, we look at five of the highest selling Pokémon lots, boxes, and cards on eBay.
Top 5 Recent Pokémon Sales
Pokémon Legendary Collection – $8,999
On November 17, someone added a big piece to their personal collection, hauling in 106 of the 110 cards in the Pokémon Legendary Collection. The set, which was released in May 2002, is a reprint edition of classic cards from the Base Set, Jungle, Fossil, and Team Rocket expansions.
Some of the cards included in the lot: Venusaur, Pikachu, Pokémon Trader, Mysterious Fossil, Sandshrew, Tauros, Meowth, and Butterfree.
A unique trait to this release, the first use of Reverse Holofoil.
Mega Rayquaza-EX – $16,500
Another big Pokémon card to change hands via eBay on November 17, a 2015 XY FA/M Rayquaza-EX #105 PSA 10. The grail card out of the Roaring Skies set values around $200 raw. Graded 10 value estimates are above $10,900… this one wowed all, selling for $16,500.
Adding to the beauty of the card, full card art and the holo finish. Used in play on the tabletop, this Rayquaza-EX hits hard.
Mario Pikachu Box Japanese Pokémon Center – $15,000
One does not see Pokémon Center Original Card Game XY Break Mario Pikachu Special Boxes out in the wild often. A collector swooped this one up on January 13 for a cool $15,000.
Released in 2016 as part of the XY-BREAK sets, this box was exclusive to Pokémon Center stores in Japan. For collectors in the U.S., this is a crown jewel addition.
Cosmo Foil Hisuian Sneasel, Growlithe & Voltorb – $77,777
How much would you pay for promo cards featuring Hisuian Sneasel, Hisuian Growlithe, and Hisuian Voltorb? To ring in the New Year, on January 1, an investor dropped lucky 7s for the valued promos.
The promo cards were included in the 2022 Collector Chest, released in mid-November of 2022. In addition to the three foil cards, the chests also included five Pokemon TCG booster packs, coins, stickers, a notebook, portfolio, and a TCG Live code card.
Beyond being part of a special release, the Cosmo Foil adds to the value. Cosmo Foil brings an extra dimension to Pokémon cards and extra bucks.
Alolan Exeggutor V Promos (4) – $99,999
Got four extra Alolan Exeggutor V SWSH225 cards lying around? If so, you’ve got high value cards on your hands. On December 5, a seller netted $99,999 off a four-card lot.
The Grass type Pokémon are promo cards from the Sword & Shield era. The release date tied to the Alolan Exeggutor V SWSH225 is typically November 15, 2019, and to the Pokémon GO Collection.
Searching online for one? Because of the small black star on the card, the SWSH225 is also called a Black Star Promo.
