Yes, Shohei Ohtani Will Have 2018 Autographs from Topps
Shohei Ohtani autographs are coming to Topps products in 2018. The card maker announced a deal that will see the Japanese star’s first autographed MLB cards arrive in the late spring. A specific product was not mentioned.
“Getting a deal with Shohei Ohtani was a priority for us because we want the best for our Topps fans,” said David Leiner, Topps Global General Manager of Sports and Entertainment via press release.
While not much in the way of details were made public on the autograph deal, Topps did note that it’s a long-term one.
An in addition to autographs, Ohtani will also be featured throughout 2018 Topps products.
The deal is not an exclusive one, though. Panini, who holds an MLBPA license, also has Shohei Ohtani autographs planned, starting with 2018 Donruss Baseball.
Ohtani signed a deal with the Los Angeles Angels in December. The plan is for him to continue to pitch and play in the field (or DH), just like he did in Japan with the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters.
Topps has already produced a couple of popular Shohei Ohtani cards. The first was a card in the 2017 Bowman Mega Box that showed him with the Japanese national team. Shortly after signing with the Angels, an Ohtani card was included in 2017 Topps Off-Season Baseball. It proceeded to break the record for the highest-selling card in the program’s two-year history.
Ohtani also has plenty of cards from Japan dating back to his 2013 debut.
