Part 5 – Scottie Pippen

If there has been a player whose cards have benefited the most since Sunday’s premiere of The Last Dance, it’s Scottie Pippen. Just take a look at the market and you will quickly see a jump in interest for the best second option in NBA history, but Pippen was much more than that.

Over his career, Scottie averaged 16 points a night on 47% shooting, but his career averages don’t really tell the whole story. Those numbers take a dip as he became a role player with the Rockets and Blazers. Scottie’s numbers with the Bulls tell a different story. During his 12 seasons in Chicago, he averaged 18 points a night on 48% shooting and added 7 rebounds, 5 assist, and two steals. Basically, if Jordan didn’t get you, Scottie would.

Pippen missed the first 35 games of the ’97-98 season with a nagging foot injury but soon fell right back into the mix of things once he was healthy. The back and forth with Jerry Krause and the Bulls front office may have been a bit of a distraction that season, but when it was all said and done Scottie made the most of the rest of his time in Chicago with one last ring.

Let’s take a look at some Pippen cards you might want to add to your Last Dance collection.

1988-89 Panini Stickers Spanish #77:

The obvious play here is the 1988-89 Fleer rookie, but, as I have mentioned before, I love the oddball stuff.  This Spanish Panini sticker fills that category nicely. There is nothing flashy about it at all but there doesn’t have to be. It’s just a headshot of a fresh-faced kid from Arkansas who is about to embark on a great NBA career. They don’t pop up much on the secondary market but when they do collectors grab them. If you don’t want to pay up for the Fleer rookie, this is the way to go.

1991-92 Skybox #44:

I have always loved this set and both Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen have cards that stand out to me in it. The design works well as the background pops against the image of the player, and though it may look busy to some, it’s simplistic ’90’s era artwork. Pippen has several cards in the 659 card set, but this one is perfect. The added bonus here is its not expensive at all. There is no reason not to add this card to your Bulls collection.

2005-06 Ultimate Collection Signatures Dual #DSJP:

This is it. The ultimate card for the ultimate Bulls fan. There is BGS 9 copy available right now for the price of a nice SUV. Just look at it. There is nothing else I need to say.
