Sometimes patience pays off.

Panini America announced Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has signed his outstanding autograph redemptions.

Wilson signed for four hours, which included cards from 2012 Crown Royale, 2012 National Treasures and 2012 Contenders.

Collectors have been waiting for a while for these cards, including some for more than a year. Panini had worked with Wilson’s people to secure a date to sign the cards and agreed it would happen shortly after his 2013 season was over, said Panini’s Vice President of Marketing Jason Howarth.

But Wilson’s season kept going right until the Super Bowl.

“We have to give kudos to Russell and his team for staying committed to that,” Howarth said. “We worked really hard for 14 month to really find a way to figure it all out, sit with him and sign the cards.”

Panini representative David Sharp and Joe White flew out to Washington on Thursday with all the outstanding cards packed away.

“We got confirmation earlier this week it was going to happen,” Howarth said. “They literally hopped on a plane with all the product. I don’t even know if they had a lot of room in their suitcases for clothes.”

Autograph redemptions often occur when a trading card company has signed a deal with a player, but didn’t get the autograph back in time to insert them into a product. The delay could be related to a number of things such as players not wanting to sign in season or scheduling conflicts.

In this case, Panini had word they would get Wilson’s signature on cards, but had to wait for the end of his season, which lasted all the way into February.

Now if they could only get Julio Jones to sign his outstanding redemptions from 2011!
