Rare Topps Mercury Victor Wembanyama Autographed Card Lands BGS 9.5 Grade
The arrival of Victor Wembanyama to the NBA from France was highly anticipated by the league, fans, collectors… and Topps. The card manufacturer saw the gifts and potential in the San Antonio Spurs’ No. 1 overall pick, so much so they created a 20-card base set around the 2024 NBA Rookie of the Year – Topps Mercury Victor Wembanyama.
Topps promoted the 2023-24 release describing “Wemby” as, “An out-of-this-world specimen streaking through the sky, gathering global acclaim in the process.” With the out of this world offer came a price tag of $8,000 per box.
Set on a chromium base, each box had two base cards, and three parallels numbered as high as /99 and lower. The rarest parallels were Black Refractor (/10), Red Refractor (/5) and SuperFractor (1/1) with each card signed by Wemby and encased by Topps.
One card within a box can essentially reward the buyer for the purchase. On March 29, during a Goldin Auctions event, a 2023-24 Topps Mercury Victor Wembanyama Inserts Autographs Black Refractors #VW2 Victor Wembanyama/Sticky Fingers raw sold for $7,388 after 22 bids with a buyer’s premium.
Even the base card (/99) without the autograph can bring in $100 or more raw.
The value for the #VW2 BGS 9.5 has not been set on the secondary market. But other cards from the Topps ’23-24 release bring hefty five-figure sums. An ungraded Autograph Relic Black #WAR-10 Wemby /10 raw has a value of $21,500. A Red Autograph Relic #WAR-10 Wemby /10 has sold for $10,450 raw.
Wembanyama has not disappointed on the court. In addition to being named ROY, he was named NBA All-Defensive First Team as a rookie and earned his first All-Star selection in 2025. Even though he was limited to 46 games during the 2024-25 season because of a deep vein thrombosis diagnosis in his right shoulder, the center led the association in blocks for a second consecutive year.
