Randy Arozarena Rookie Card Guide

Sometimes baseball prospects are surrounded by hype from even before they’re drafted. In this day and age, this is actually often the case. But every now and again, a player bursts onto the scene and grabs collectors’ attention. That’s what the Randy Arozarena Rookie Card lineup in the midst of his power-filled postseason.

For Arozarena, there wasn’t really any hobby build-up. He signed as an international free agent with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2016. In 2017 and 2018, his only cards were a couple of base cards in 2017 and 2018 Topps Heritage Minors, their parallels and a pair of local minor league cards from Grandstand. Arozarena’s first autograph didn’t arrive until 2019 Elite Extra Edition and he never did receive a Bowman Chrome Prospect Autograph.

Suiting up for St. Louis for four games in 2019 was enough to make him eligible for regular base set with the first Randy Arozarena Rookie Card arriving in 2020 Topps Series 1. And then the gates opened, resulting in a steady flow of releases in the months since. But entering 2020, the outfielder was still largely viewed as checklist padding. His profile was behind that of Luis Robert Bo Bichette and several others. This means you’re not going to find Arozarena in every 2020 baseball card product.

There’s also the fact that the Cuban-born player was traded from the Cardinals to Tampa Bay before the 2020 season kicked off. This means that several early Randy Arozarena Rookie Cards have him with St. Louis. Late-season releases have made the switch, though.

Long-Term Outlook

It has been in the 2020 postseason that Arozarena has made his mark, showing a lot of power. And while this has caused an uptick in his cards, it’s important to note that the sample size of his career is still very small. He’s not exactly a young prospect and playing for a team that doesn’t generally draw a ton of collector interest. In short, be cautious if you’re simply looking for a lot of long-term pop.

Randy Arozarena Rookie Card Checklist and Guide

Here’s a look at the various Randy Arozarena Rookie Cards that are out there. This list is limited to base cards that have the RC tag in the Beckett database. It does not include inserts. A comprehensive checklist of Randy Arozarena cards is available in the database. Expect this list to grow as more 2020 sets come out.

2020 Absolute Randy Arozarena RC Autograph #147 /149

The 2020 Absolute Randy Arozarena Rookie Card is an autograph with a spin. Instead of the traditional card-signature combination, this one comes on ball material. It’s a nice alternative to stickers when regular on-card ink isn’t an option. Even if it is, it makes for a sharp look that integrates the game into cards on a different level.

2020 Bowman Randy Arozarena RC #24

When collectors are busting packs of 2020 Bowman Baseball, they’re probably looking for Jasson Dominguez and other top prospects. The actual Rookie Cards in the product are often overlooked. Arozarena is no different, but the situation is a little different in that it actually is his first Bowman card. The outfielder never appeared on a prospect card.

2020 Diamond Kings is Panini’s entry into the baseball card art realm. It gives the card is distinctly painted look with bonus points for the canvas-style stock. Although listed as one of the set’s short prints, it’s not significantly so. As such, price remain reasonable.

2020 Donruss Randy Arozarena RC #51

Kicking off Panini’s baseball season, 2020 Donruss has a lot of built in tradition — like the Rated Rookie notation. One thing that isn’t traditional is the product’s introduction of emoji-based parallels. They might not be for every collector, but they’re definitely for some. And that’s what comes with anything different.

Parallels: Baby Shark, Holo Blue, Holo Orange, Holo Pink, Holo Purple, Holo Red, Independence Day, Yellow, Career Stat Line (/500), Season Stat Line (/300), One Hundred (/100), On Fire (/75), Presidential Collection (/50), Look at This (/25), Milestone Stat Line (/19), Artist Proof (/10), Press Proof (/5), Number 1 (1/1), Printing Plates Black (1/1), Printing Plates Cyan (1/1), Printing Plates Magenta (1/1), Printing Plates Yellow (1/1)

2020 Donruss Optic Randy Arozarena RC #51

The design is the same as Donruss. The Rated Rookie logo is back. But there’s more to the 2020 Donruss Optic Randy Arozarena than a simple metallic makeover. Not only is the team updated, but there’s a new photo as well. Of course, Optic brings its own unique mix of parallels (no emojis, though).

2020 Immaculate Collection Randy Arozarena RC Auto Patch #113 /99

2020 Immaculate Collection Baseball gives the Randy Arozarena Rookie Card lineup some super premium content. The on-card signature and large piece of player-worn patch are the standouts. The St. Louis connection may not be as appealing to Rays fans, but it shouldn’t hurt prices too much especially since there aren’t a lot of comparable cards for the slugger.

Parallels: Holo Gold (/66), Red (/49), Holo Silver (/25), Black (/10), Pink (/6), Green (/5), Button (/4), Brand Logo (1/1), Platinum (1/1), Printing Plates Black (1/1), Printing Plates Cyan (1/1), Printing Plates Magenta (1/1), Printing Plates Yellow (1/1), Tag (1/1)

2020 Select Randy Arozarena RC #59

And another chromium choice. This one has a lot of the same attributes as Prizm. However, when you get into the parallels, Select has some of the most unique patterns in all of sports cards. Standouts for this one include the cornerstone Zebra and Tie-Dye patterns.

Parallels: Holo, Scope, Tri-Color, Zebra, Red (/199), Blue (/149), Neon Green (/99), White (/50), Carolina Blue (/35), Cracked Ice (/25), Tie-Dye (/20), Orange Pulsar (/13), Gold (/10), Pink (/10), Green (/5), Gold Vinyl (1/1)

2020 Stadium Club Randy Arozarena RC #299

Coming towards the very end of the 2020 Stadium Club checklist, the photo is the focal point. Well, it is for most of the base cards in the set. Arozarena’s isn’t necessarily bad but it is bland, likely a result of not have a huge stack of options to choose from.

Parallels: Black Foil, Black and White, Members Only, Photographer’s Proof, Red Foil, Sepia, Blue Foil (/50), Rainbow Foil (/25), First Day Issue (10 copies), Gold Rainbow Foil (1/1)

2020 Topps Randy Arozarena Rookie Card #229

There’s power in the flagship. Topps Baseball is the one most powerful lines in the hobby. They’re also in the various factory sets.

2020 Topps Archives Randy Arozarena Rookie Card #213

The Randy Arozarena Rookie Card in 2020 Topps Archives adopts the design of 2002 Topps. It’s not one of the more famous flagship designs, even in the last 20 years, but it’s also not over-used like some layouts have become over the years. For this card, such things don’t matter much. This is one of the outfielder’s more affordable RCs.

Parallels: Mega Box Foil, Purple (/175), Silver (/99), Mega Box Orange Foil (/75), Red (/75), Blue (/25), Mega Box Green Foil (/15), Mega Box Red Foil (/5), Gold Foil (1/1), Mega Box Black Foil (1/1)

2020 Topps Chrome Randy Arozarena Rookie Card #49

Look familiar? That’s because it is, only more shiny. Topps Chrome is one of the company’s longest running brands. Base Rookie Cards get a fair bit of respect over the long-term, however there’s also the allure of all those colorful Refractors. The result? Several ways to approach this card.

Parallels: Refractors, Negative Refractors, Pink Refractors, Prism Refractors, Sepia Refractors, Purple Refractors (/299), Blue Refractors (/150), Green Refractors (/99), Green Wave Refractors (/99), Blue Wave Refractors (/75), Gold Refractors (/50), Gold Wave Refractors (/50), Orange Refractors (/25), Orange Wave Refractors (/25), Red Refractors (/5), Red Wave Refractors (/5), Printing Plates Black (1/1), Printing Plates Cyan (1/1), Printing Plates Magenta (1/1), Printing Plates Yellow (1/1), Superfractors (1/1)

2020 Topps Chrome Ben Baller Randy Arozarena Rookie Card #49

2020 Topps Chrome Ben Baller Baseball takes the regular Chrome set and gives it not only a makeover, but some name power behind it as well. Ben Baller, who is also one of the Project 2020 artists, put his own touches on the design. Oh yeah, it’s also an online-only release. So there’s not a ton out there. Prices of Arozarena’s card reflect this.

2020 Topps Chrome Sapphire Randy Arozarena RC #229

And here’s the biggie. There’s no autograph. The base version isn’t even serial numbered. But the 2020 Topps Chrome Sapphire Randy Arozarena Rookie Card commands some of the biggest numbers when it comes to his cards. Sapphire is an online-exclusive release that sold out very quickly through Topps’ website. Not surprisingly, the print run is significantly smaller than a lot of traditional releases. Sapphire has been building a following over the last few years as well. It’s also worth noting that this card has an updated photo of the outfielder from his earlier Topps Chrome card.

2020 Topps Gypsy Queen Randy Arozarena Rookie Card #68

The 2020 Topps Gypsy Queen Randy Arozarena Rookie Card might not carry a lot of value but it stands out for a couple of reasons. It’s one of his first cards where he’s shown in a Rays uniform. And then there’s photo. It’s hard to say exactly what’s going on but it’s not your typical batting or fielding shot.

Parallels: Bazooka Back, GQ Logo Swap, Green, Missing Name Plate, Silver, Indigo (/250), Blue (/150), Black and White (/50), Red (/10), Black (1/1)

2020 Topps Heritage Randy Arozarena / Junior Hernandez Rookie Card #216

Sticking with the tradition of the 1971 set it’s based on, 2020 Topps Heritage pairs up rookies. For Arozarena, it’s with a pitcher who appeared in four MLB games in 2020. Heritage is generally popular with set builders. There are some exceptions, but regular Rookies Cards don’t often break out.

Parallels: French Text, White Border (50 copies), Reverse Stock (5 copies)

2020 Topps Inception Randy Arozarena Rookie Card #32

Color is the thing that pops out here. Since its beginning, Inception has been a line with big designs and the 2020 edition is no different. The pop art stylings have a lot going on. For some, probably too much. For others, it’s something different and with pop.

Parallels: Green, Purple (/150), Magenta (/99), Red (/75), Orange (/50), Blue (/25), Inception (1/1), Printing Plates Black (1/1), Printing Plates Cyan (1/1), Printing Plates Magenta (1/1), Printing Plates Yellow (1/1)
