The best grass decks for Pokémon TCG Pocket usually win when they can get on their feet quickly and convert small, consistent advantages into a board you can’t disentangle. The Grass decks below take this approach from two different directions: One deck is centered around rushing a core attacker onto the board as soon as possible through a combination of aggressive search and shortcuts for rapid evolution, while the second deck takes a more trap-like approach by punishing a Pokémon based on its retreat cost.
Best Pokémon TCG Pocket Grass Deck: Decidueye ex
The key to using this deck is to get Decidueye ex into play as quickly as possible (with your regular Decidueyes as backup if luck isn’t with you). Ideally, you’ll use a combo of Poké Ball, Professor’s Research, and Copycat to get Rare Candy, Rowlet, and Decidueye ex early. Then you can use the Rare Candy to evolve Rowlet straight to Decidueye ex and start taking out your opponents’ Pokémon before they have a chance to set up. The drawback to this deck is that it doesn’t have a lot of raw strength, so the cards need to fall right for it to dominate.

Best budget Pokémon TCG Pocket Grass Deck: Ariados and Whimsicott ex
Whimsicott ex is a fairly unremarkable card until you pair it with Ariados. Ariados’s ability, Trap Territory, increases your opponent’s Active Pokémon’s Retreat Cost by 1, which boosts Whimsicott ex’s Grass Knot by 30 damage. Since Whimsicott is a Stage 1 evolution, it’s easy to get it on the field. This is a great counter deck to Mega Pokémon. For example, with Ariados on the bench, Whimsicott ex’s Grass Knot will hit Mega Venusaur, which has a four energy retreat cost, for 190 damage.
