Jungle was the second expansion of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, and was released on June 16, 1999, six months after the game debuted. It was loosely based on Red and Blue’s Safari Zone, as evident from the Pokémon TCG Jungle set checklist below. The expansion can essentially be seen as an extension of the Base Set. No new mechanics were introduced in Jungle, and it was a relatively small set with only 48 new cards (and 16 holo variants).

Is Pokémon TCG Jungle Worth Collecting Now?

While it doesn’t hold quite the same regard as the Base Set, Jungle is a fundamental part of Pokémon TCG’s early history. The nostalgia that drives fans to pay a premium for Base Set cards still applies to Jungle, and there’s a certain amount of hype that surrounds all Wizards of the Coast-era cards.

Now is a good time to collect Jungle, as you can still easily piece together an entire Near Mint ungraded set for under $400-$500. You’ll find the Holos already command a fairly high price, but they’re still plentiful, so you’ll find a deal if you hold out long enough. Jungle is only going to go up in price, so whether you’re a collector or an investor, the sooner you buy, the better.
