LeBron Tools Update

By Stephen Laroche | Beckett Basketball Editor

It didn’t take them long.

Panini America has made their first new cards of LeBron James in a Cavaliers uniform and, fittingly enough, they will be released in Cleveland at the 2014 National Sports Collectors Convention later this month.

What makes this card that much more special is the fact that it will feature a piece of a game-used jersey he wore during his previous tenure with the club.

The 2014 National Sports Collectors Convention Tools of the Trade Update set will be made up of six different players. The rest of the roster is quite impressive as it features Tim Duncan, Damian Lillard, Derrick Rose, Chris Paul and Rajon Rondo.

The basic version of each card will be limited to 175 copies while there are Prime (#’d to 25) and Super Prime (one-of-one) variants that can be discovered in special packs. The Super Prime cards will contain a piece of a laundry tag.

How does a collector in attendance snag one of these packs? If they open a box of certain 2013-14 Panini basketball products (Gold Standard, Elite, Prestige, Prizm, Pinnacle or Totally Certified), they will receive a blind-wrapped memorabilia card. It is important to get to the Panini booth early as the packs are limited to the first 200 customers each day.

An absolutely brilliant move is using a picture with no jersey number visible. Who knows what number he’ll end up playing with? Great work Panini America! I love the attention to detail while still looking ahead to the future. Awesome.

all well and good……what would actually be helpful would be actual checklist breakdowns which could help the collectors ……..these national convention sets are a disaster when trying to place them ion proper sets. The National, the National-vip, The National Vip Party and the Wrapper Redemption Set ……not to mention hundreds of memorabilia subsets.
