New Pokémon TCG Museum Promo Card Might Be the Most Powerful Ever Made

The Pokémon Company is teaming with The National History Museum in London to release a “Pikachu at the Museum” promo card; it might have the most powerful move in Pokémon TCG history. While it’s intended to be a fun souvenir as a gift with purchases at select pop-up shops, it absolutely breaks the game, but there’s a catch that’ll prevent it from dominating the meta.
Pikachu’s Museum card move is game-breaking but benign
The Pikachu at the Museum card has two moves, one of which is “The Best Collection!” The description text is simple, but will have most Pokémon TCG players doing a double-take:
“Search your Pokémon TCG collection for a Pokémon, reveal it, and put it into your hand.”
That’s right. With this move that requires a measly one energy, you can place any Pokémon you own into the game with no restrictions. You’re not limited to Pokémon in your deck, or even a particular type. Obviously, with such a decisive move, this would be a must-have card that would become essential for any competitive player.
Fortunately, there’s something that makes this card zero threat to the Pokémon TCG meta. According to the official website, it’s an oversized promo card, so it wouldn’t be legal in any format. There’s also no indication that a standard-sized Pikachu at the Museum card will be released.
However, since the Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat Van Gogh Museum promo is legal, Pikachu at the Museum would likely have been too had it been a standard card. The Pokémon Company is conservative when it comes to adding cards to the official ban list, so there’s a good chance this one card could have upturned the entire game.
Unfortunately, tickets to attend the Pokémon x Natural History Presents “Pokécology” event, the card commemorates, are sold out. However, it will still be available at select UK retailers starting January 30, so keep an eye out for further details.
