Another auction and closed and key vintage Mickey Mantle cards continue to break records. This time it was Memory Lane Inc. selling an entire run of cards from his playing days.
Of the 21 Mickey Mantle cards that were part of the “Empire State Collection,” 14 set new records for public sales. Among them were a PSA 8 1951 Bowman Mickey Mantle rookie card and a PSA 7.5 1952 Topps.
The 1951 Bowman card crossed $100,000 for the first time going for $119,500. The previous mark for the card at the same grade was $99,336, which was set just a couple of months before.
The 1952 Topps Mantle sold for $199,565.
From a percentage perspective, the 1953 Topps Mantle had both of these beat. A PSA 8.5 almost reached six figures, closing at $95,600. This is more than double what it sold for a couple of years ago.
Memory Lane’s Winter Classic Auction netted more than $2.1 million. More than one-third of that came from the Mantle collection, which brought in a combined $759,100. Full results for all listings can be seen on Memory Lane’s website.
