MLBPA confirms 53 RC logo eligible rookies for initial 2013 baseball card sets
By Chris Olds | Beckett Baseball Editor
The first baseball card set of 2013 is just 16 days away — and that means when 2013 Topps arrives there will be a new crop of Rookie Cards.
To be precise, there are 53 players who made their MLB debuts last season who are eligible for the Rookie Card logo beginning with 2013 Topps on Jan. 30. Will all of them be in the set when it arrives? That remains to be seen on a final checklist from Topps, but the MLB Players Association did provide Beckett Media the list of logo-eligible players.
Among them are Philadelphia’s Darin Ruf, who hit 20 homers in a month as a minor-leaguer before getting the call, along with Baltimore’s Manny Machado and Dylan Bundy as well as promising Arizona pitcher Tyler Skaggs.

Awesome stuff. Thanks for sharing. Will Topps release a full Series 1 checklist prior to the product being released or do they not do that?
Thanks.
What about David Phelps for the Yankees? He doesn’t have a Topps rookie card and he was up with the Yanks for most of the year last year.
What is the criteria for being on this list? J.J. Hoover , Mike Costanzo and Kris Negron made their major league debuts for the Reds last season and are still considered rookies yet they didn’t appear on any cards last year and are not on this list. I am sure other teams have similar players that didn’t make either list.
And how many of them have had cards in a Bowman Prospects insert set? Today’s “RC Logo” construct is just about as meaningful is the “XRC” construct in the ’80s.
If players were called up before the dates here, they were/are eligible for RCs. This list is basically those that were late-season call-ups confirmed to be RC logo-eligible.
Other guys who end up with their first cards will likely be tagged as RCs in Beckett system but I can’t day 100 percent they’d have logos. (Some have been hit and miss in past.)
Jason: Topps generally releases its final checklist right around the time of release.
hey chris what about matt harvey of the mets he still a rookie?
Hmmm . . . no one from the Braves this year?
Cannot wait for those Avisail Garcia rookie cards!!!!!
I think Manny Machado will be the hobby golden boy this coming season.
I really wish MLB/MLBPA/Topps would adopt the NHL way of handling rookie cards where the player doesn’t get a MLB licensed card until they actually make their MLB debut. Topps puts out 3 series of their base set and the 3rd might actually be worth purchasing if it were packed with actual MLB rookie cards.
Topps has a MiLB license, that should theoretically satiate the prospectors. Maybe one draft pick card with the player pictured in his amateur uniform for the first round picks in Bowman but that should be it until they make the bigs. I’m sick of guys having hundreds of clumsily photoshopped MLB licensed cards before they ever or if they even ever make their MLB debut.
Matt Harvey was in 2012 Topps Update kevinmitro
Matt Harvey has a RC logo in 2012 update but not in any other product (I.e. topps chrome, bowman chrome, bowman draft). Does that mean that Matt Harvey will only have the one RC. I believe Dominic Brown had the RC logo in a few 2010 and 2011 products. I’m curious how that works.
It’s likely to be his only Rookie Card then.
They may use logos on his 2013s, but if that’s a legit RC by definition then it will be the only one tagged as an RC.
Hector Sanchez of the giants now has a 2013 series 2 card that does not say RC. Interesting bc he doesn’t have any other card from topps or bowman.
