Opening Day means a new baseball season. Whether you get romantic about the game or are simply a numbers person, it marks a new beginning. Over the course of the next seven months, dozens of prospects will see their hard work come to fruition. They’ll make it to The Show. Now, there will be a unique Debut Patch that will highlight every player starring in their first game. These patches will also become a part of a unique baseball card.

Fanatic MLB Debut Patch

It’s part of a partnership between Topps’ parent company Fanatics Collectibles, Major League Baseball and MLB Players Inc.

“For a Player there is no bigger moment than the first time they step onto a field for their Major League debut,” MLBPA Executive Director Tony Clark said. “The Debut Patch is one way to capture the timeless nature of this moment and provide fans the opportunity to be part of it by collecting a Player worn item.”

The concept is simple but symbolic for both the player and collectors. When a player is called up, the Debut Patch will be added to their jersey sleeve. After the game in which they make their first on-field appearance, the patch will be removed. It will then be set aside for a future Topps baseball card.

MLB Authentication will oversee the process to ensure authenticity.

“Debut Patches represent one of the first steps that Fanatics Collectibles is taking to bring the players and leagues closer to the products, and ultimately fans,” said Mike Mahan, CEO, Fanatics Collectibles.

Fanatics has not yet announced specifics on the product type or distribution of the Debut Patch cards.
