Eleven baseball players have been honored and next year their baseball cards will be enhanced.
Topps announced its 54th-annual Rookie All-Star Team on Monday and it includes both 2012 Rookies of the Year, Mike Trout and Bryce Harper, as well as the other four finalists for the award. Each of their 2013 baseball cards will include a Rookie All-Star trophy, a feature that regularly appeared on Topps cards since the first winners, the 1959 class that included Hall of Famer Willie McCovey, made their debuts in the 1960 Topps set.
The 2012 Topps Rookie All-Stars include …
First base — Anthony Rizzo, Cubs (15 HR, 48 RBI, .285)
Second base — Steve Lombardozzi, Nationals (3, 27, .273)
Shortstop — Zack Cozart, Reds (15, 35, .246)
Third base — Todd Frazier, Reds (19, 67, .273)
Outfield — Mike Trout, Angels (30, 83, .326)
Outfield — Bryce Harper, Nationals (22, 59, .270)
Outfield — Yoenis Cespedes, A’s (23, 82, .292)
Catcher — Wilin Rosario, Rockies (28, 71, .270)
LHP — Wade Miley, D’backs (16-11, 3.33 ERA, 144K, 37 BB)
RHP — Yu Darvish, Rangers (16-9, 3.90, 221, 89)
Relief pitcher — Addison Reed, White Sox (29 Saves, 4.75, 54, 18)
Congrats to Anthony Rizzo!
The only good thing to come from the Red Sox 2012 season, Will Middlebrooks (15, 54, .288 in 53 fewer games) deserved 3B nod over Frazier.
Anthony Rizzo rocks! Go 44!
