Mel Ott Game-Worn Gear, Personal Memorabilia Headed to Auction

Hall of Famer Mel Ott brought a lot of power potential every time he stepped up to the plate. Several pieces of personal Mel Ott memorabilia will be looking for some power of their own when they hit the auction block this fall.
SCP Auctions is featuring eight lots in the Mel Ott Collection as part of their 2017 Fall Premier sale.
Mel Ott Collection Items
The items being sold are a mix of game-worn gear and personal items with significant meaning.
Leading the way is a uniform Ott wore as manager of the New York Giants in 1948, his final year as the team’s skipper. Not only does the lot include the jersey, but the pants and stirrups as well.
Until recently, the uniform was on loan to the Baseball Hall of Fame, where it was displayed. The lot also comes with documentation noting its Cooperstown display.
Other items in the Mel Ott Collection include a pair of game-worn cleats circa 1940, an All-America Board of Baseball sweater from 1938, and a pair of pants he wore as manager of the PCL’s Oakland Oaks in 1951-52. Ott’s 1958 American League season pass is also available, packaged with the brown leather case it came with.

Every item comes with a letter from Ott’s family.
SCP’s 2017 Fall Premier Auction opens on Wednesday, October 18. Bidding closes on Saturday, November 4. Potential bidders can register on the SCP Auctions website.
