If you’ve been holding out hope for a return to one of the Pokémon TCG’s flashiest mechanics, it’s official: Mega Evolutions are making a comeback. The Pokémon Company has confirmed that a new English-language set featuring Mega Evolutions will release on September 26, 2025—and the hype is already real.

Even better (or worse, depending on where you shop), there are already warnings about limited supply and potential prerelease shortages, especially for Build & Battle boxes on their way out. So if you’re trying to get in early, you’ll want to stay on your toes leading up to the launch.

Which Mega Evolutions Are Coming Back?

Leaks and official teases by way of The Pokémon Company International as well as Japanese releases have already confirmed several major Mega Evolutions in this set, including:

  • Mega Mewtwo X
  • Mega Mewtwo Y
  • Mega Lucario
  • Mega Banette

These four are expected to headline the English set, which will likely pull directly from the Japanese Night Wanderer expansion. Mega Mewtwo in both forms is already a collector favorite, thanks to its XY BREAKthrough appearances, and Mega Lucario’s Furious Fists card is still commanding a decent amount when it comes to resale. Even Mega Banette, a creepy favorite, has the potential to shine with the right card treatment.

What This Means for Collectors

Every time Pokémon brings back a legacy mechanic like this, older versions of the same cards see a spike in value. That includes graded copies and sealed product from the original run. That makes now the time to revisit the Mega Evolutions of the past, whether you’re trying to complete your set or invest ahead of the hype.

To get ahead of the curve, you’ll want to start checking prices. Look up specific cards like:

  • Mega Mewtwo EX (XY BREAKthrough)
  • Mega Lucario EX (Furious Fists)
  • Mega Banette EX (XY Roaring Skies Promo)

Beckett’s database makes it easy to track historical pricing, monitor trends, and compare listings across sellers if you’re planning to buy or sell before prices climb even higher closer to September.

Don’t Wait for Release Day

With prerelease supply already expected to be tight, this isn’t the kind of set you can afford to sleep on. Whether you’re looking to open packs, invest, or just finally get your hands on a proper Mega Lucario again, it’s smart to start watching sealed preorders now and keep tabs on Beckett’s TCG listings.

And if you’re sitting on any of those OG Mega cards from the XY era, you might want to consider grading them or offloading them while demand is heating up. Either way, September 26 is looking like a major day for collectors, and potentially one of the biggest TCG drops of the year.
