For years, Marcus Stroman was the anchor of the Toronto Blue Jays pitching staff. Despite strong numbers and a charismatic personality, his cards never really caught on. Being a pitcher on the Blue Jays probably played a big part in that, limiting his exposure outside of Canada. But now the Long Island-born All-Star is heading to the New York Mets. What will that mean for the Marcus Stroman Rookie Card lineup and his other early cards? It’s too early to tell, but a lack of exposure should no longer a reason for his overlooked status in the hobby.

Here’s a breakdown of Marcus Stroman Rookie Cards as well as highlights of some of his other early cards.

Marcus Stroman Rookie Card Guide

This list only includes base cards with the RC tag in the Beckett database and price guide. Inserts are not included.

2014 Bowman Sterling Marcus Stroman Rookie Card #42

Base cards are a rare occurrence in 2014 Bowman Sterling Baseball packs. In fact, autographs outnumber them 3:1. And even then, that base number includes parallels. As a result, this is definitely one of the toughest Marcus Stroman Rookie Cards to find.

Parallels: Refractors (/199), Purple Refractors (/50), Blue Refractors (/25), Japan Fractors (/25), Black Atomic Refractors (/10), Canary Diamond Refractors (/3), Japan Atomic Refractors (1/1), Printing Plates Black (1/1), Printing Plates Cyan (1/1), Printing Plates Magenta (1/1), Printing Plates Yellow (1/1), Red Refractors (1/1), Superfractors (1/1)

Parallels: Silver (/149), Gold (/25), Platinum (1/1)

2014 Stadium Club Marcus Stroman RC #128

With Stadium Club focusing on photography, there’s not a lot to the design. And with limited photos available at the time for the then-rookie, this isn’t up for Best in Set as far as images go. Still, it’s sharp and a very affordable choice for those looking for something simple. Stroman also has an autograph on the 2014 Topps Stadium Club checklist.

Parallels: Electric Foil, Gold, Members Only, Rainbow, Foilboard (/25)

2014 Topps Chrome Marcus Stroman RC #76

2014 Topps Chrome Update Marcus Stroman RC #MB53

2014 Topps Chrome Update packs were only available in special boxes sold at Target. And even then, these packs were just two per box. The result isn’t just a store-specific exclusive but one that’s noticeably tougher to find than many of Stroman’s other Rookie Cards.

Parallels: Gold Refractors (/250), Black Refractors (/99)

2014 Topps Heritage Marcus Stroman RC #H572

Included in 2014 Topps Heritage High Number, the set came packaged only in factory set form. That means many are likely still in tact and tucked away in their original boxes. The base version doesn’t have any parallels, but Stroman is on the Real One Autographs checklist.

Other Key Early Marcus Stroman Cards

This isn’t meant to be an exhaustive list of early Marcus Stroman cards. Rather, it focuses on highlights from some of the earliest releases he appears in. A comprehensive Marcus Stroman card checklist can be found in the Beckett database.

2011 Bowman Platinum USA National Team Autographs Marcus Stroman #USA-MS

The first Marcus Stroman cards go back to before he was even drafted. This is one of a handful of USA Baseball-themed autographs Topps released of the pitcher in 2011. It’s not fancy and the photo is the same one found in the 2011 Topps USA Baseball box set but it is on-card and affordable.

2011 Topps Chrome USA Baseball Autographs Marcus Stroman #USABB20

Of Stroman’s 2011 autographs, the Topps Chrome name probably carries the most clout. However, it also comes on a sticker, which likely means that it’s less appealing to some, especially with multiple hard-signed options out there from the same period.

Parallels: Refractors (/199), Blue Refractors (/99), Gold Refractors (/50), Atomic Refractors (/10), Red Refractors (/5), Printing Plates Black (1/1), Printing Plates Cyan (1/1), Printing Plates Magenta (1/1), Printing Plates Yellow (1/1), Superfractors (1/1)

2011 Topps USA Baseball Autographs Marcus Stroman #USA-A20

Rather than being found in packs of MLB products like many of Stroman’s other USA Baseball cards, this simple autograph came in the year’s box set. It’s one of the pitcher’s easier and most affordable early signatures.

Parallels: Red (/99), Gold (/25), Green (1/1)

2011 Topps USA Baseball Triple Jersey Autographs Marcus Stroman #ATR-MS /214

Parallels: Red (/25), Gold (/10), Green (1/1)

2012 Bowman Black Collection Autographs Marcus Stroman #BBC-MS /25

Bowman Black Collection Autographs spanned several Bowman sets and years. They offer up distinct signatures with metallic ink cast against black backgrounds. Their numbers are also small, numbered to 25 copies. The 2012 Bowman Black Collection Autographs Marcus Stroman was included in Bowman Sterling packs. Outside of parallels, this is one of his toughest early autographs.

2012 Bowman Chrome Draft Draft Pick Autographs Marcus Stroman #BCA-MS

If you’re looking for the key Marcus Stroman card, most will likely agree this is it. Like many in his era, Stroman’s first Bowman Chrome autograph carries a lot of clout — at least when you compare it to the pitcher’s other cards. Considering his accolades, though, this really isn’t overly expensive when you compare it to similar cards of up-and-coming prospects.

Parallels: Refractors, Blue Refractors (/150), Blue Wave Refractors (/50), Gold Refractors (/50), Orange Refractors (/25), Purple Refractors (/10), Red Refractors (/5), Printing Plates Black (1/1), Printing Plates Cyan (1/1), Printing Plates Magenta (1/1), Printing Plates Yellow (1/1), Superfractors (1/1)

2012 Bowman Chrome Draft Draft Picks Marcus Stroman #BDPP35

Autographs aren’t for everyone. Stroman also has a regular Bowman Chrome Draft Picks card found in 2012 Bowman Draft Baseball. This marks the beginning of his MLB cards where Stroman’s in full Blue Jays gear. Several Refractors compliment the card.

Parallels: Red Ink (/25), Green Ink (/10)

2012 Leaf Metal Draft Marcus Stroman #BA-MS1 Autograph

2012 Leaf Ultimate Draft Marcus Stroman #BA-MS1 Autograph

The 2012 Leaf Ultimate Draft Marcus Stroman autograph will appeal to those who are into more traditional designs for their signature cards. It’s got a high-end feel, but it’s done with lots of white space and foil highlights rather than full-on foil or chromium stock.

Parallels: Silver (/25), Gold (/10), Red (/5), Printing Plates Black (1/1), Printing Plates Cyan (1/1), Printing Plates Magenta (1/1), Printing Plates Yellow (1/1), Purple (1/1)
