2013 Topps Chasing History Holofoil Gold #CH93 Manny Machado

When Manny Machado steps up to the plate for his first at bat on Opening Day for the 2026 Major League Baseball season, he will still be a spry 32 years old. The 14-year, soon-to-be 15-year, career has flown by for fans and collectors. Watercooler debates continue regarding the seven-time All-Star – is he on track for the Hall of Fame? For us collectors of his rookie cards, the group trust says, “we think so and we hope so.”

Beyond All-Star Game appearances as a member of the Baltimore Orioles and San Diego Padres at both shortstop and third base, Machado has other standout honors to his resume, including being a two-time Gold Glove Award and three-time Silver Slugger Award winner. The career numbers are inching closer to all-time greatness and his statistical numbers at the plate are among the best of his era… all positive signs for Cooperstown and added value to our card collections.

For those who have collected and those wanting to collect, we take a deep dive into Machado’s true rookie cards.

The Cards

For the price conscious collectors, of the 24 base Machado rookie cards, 14 are valued at $10 or less, or somewhere in that ballpark, based on condition per the Beckett Online Price Guide (OPG). This does not always hold true in the hobby, all 14 are cool cards to own with no filler duds.

Upper Midlevel Pricing Tier

Pricing is still relatively reasonable, but values go north of $50. The asking price of a graded 9 BGS is around $200.

Unknown Pricing

The 1/1 situation makes the following four cards self-explanatory… they are wisely tucked away in a personal collection somewhere and have not been sold on the open market recently. Based on some of the overall Machado rookie card prices, easy to guess these Turkey Red Printing Plates would create a nice financial windfall if put up for auction.

2013 Manny Machado OPG Complete Overview

If we start adding parallels, inserts and any other cardboard collectibles with Machado’s name on it released in 2013, our OPG search expands to 696 items. What was missing largely in the previous lists – serial numbered cards, SSP, high end parallels, and autographs.

Looking at the top 12 cards value wise, only two in the mix are not autographed but both are SSP:

All the cards in the top 12 are manufactured by Topps but not all of them carry Topps’ name or are from the flagship release:

The six cards that comprise the bottom half of the top 12 value wise, if seeking to purchase, expect to start around $400 Mint rising to $500.

A sidebar to this group, Topps Heritage Real One Autographs #MM Machado Red Ink /10 (pictured). In short, it is very valuable. A graded 10 on eBay is listed for $19,999.99.

The Top Six

Price wise, the top six Machado cards with known values, per the OPG, are all variations of 2013 Topps Chrome Rookie Autographs #12 with one Bowman Chrome exception. The colors determine the print run, and the scarcity drives the market value. With each of the following three cards listed, expect Mint values to start at $500 going up to $800.

Top Three

Raw values for the next two cards are in the neighborhood of $800 with graded 10s going for over $1,500.

Top of the List

The ultimate Machado chase card with Mint raw values around $1,200. The pictured BGS 9 version is listed on eBay for $10,000.

Machado’s Career

The San Diego Padres third baseman enters the 2026 season with 369 home runs, 1,144 RBI, and 2,069 career hits.

What stands out is his WAR (61.7). The threshold for Hall of Fame consideration is a 50 WAR. Maybe not cited for his defensive play as much as early in his career but Machado can scoop and gun with the best of them. His career defensive WAR is 14.7, third best among active players, which ranks 121st all-time.
