Magic: The Gathering Beta Time Walk Tops $16,000 – Beckett Pricing Insider
Another iconic Magic card has fetched a massive price tag. This time it was a Magic: The Gathering Beta Time Walk graded as a BGS 9.5 Gem Mint netting $16,100 on eBay.

Time Walk is known as one of the Power 9 within the Magic: The Gathering community. It earns that title by providing the player who casts it the extremely powerful effect of taking an extra turn. This give players a massive advantage over their opponent as it helps you pull ahead in terms of resources and damage.
On top of gaining this effect, the mana cost is what truly makes Time Walk so insanely strong. For a mere 2 mana you can cast this card. In more modern sets that have similar effects to Time Walk, these often cost at least 5 mana to cast.
With the low cost and strong power, it gives you the option of casting it early to gain a quick advantage. Or, you can play it later to perform more actions when you play it.
As far as this sale goes, a couple of things are in play beyond the strength of the card itself. Time Walk was only printed in the initial three sets, which are highly coveted by collectors.
Also important to note is the grade. At the time of the sale, BGS had graded 175 copies of the card. Of those, 53 got a 9.5 Gem Mint grade. However, this particular card has subgrades of 9.5 or better for all four: edges, corners, centering and surface.
This sale is another sign that the market for early Magic: The Gathering cards continues to explode, particular when it comes to high-grade key cards like the Power 9.
