Magic: The Gathering Alpha Black Lotus BGS 9.5 Sells for Almost $88,000 – Beckett Pricing Insider
Do you have some old Magic: The Gathering cards tucked away? You might want to dig them out. On Thursday, July 26, a basic BGS 9.5 1993 Magic: The Gathering Alpha Black Lotus sold on eBay for $87,672 through PWCC Auctions.
Back in 2017, Magic: The Gathering reserved list cards began to see exponential spikes in value. Collectors and investors alike began buying out cards, no matter how powerful.
Fast forward to 2018 and the trend of buying out these old cards continues to break records. This recent Black Lotus sale is more than double the price of what it was last year. A big part of the price is due to the high grade, but Black Lotus is still one of the most iconic Magic: The Gathering cards ever released.
It is crazy how far these cards have climbed in the last year. But even them, there seems to be no sign of thing slowing down. It will be interesting to see what another year will add on to the value of these cards, but for now we are seeing new territory being broken in the MTG card market.
