Leaf Cuts Production On Next Hockey Releases

Leaf Trading Cards recently announced that it will be cutting back on production of its upcoming 2014-15 In The Game Leaf Metal Hockey release, but the move will come as a welcome surprise to collectors as they will be seeding at least one Connor McDavid autograph in each case.

“When running the numbers, I came to the realization that cutting production to a paltry 199 cases would allow me to deliver Connor McDavid autographs at a rate of one or more per case on average,” noted Leaf’s Brian Gray. “This is huge and highly unlikely to be repeatable.”

McDavid, who is considered by many to be the front-runner for first pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, has been a force in the hobby this season and his cards picked up even more momentum following the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship. His play for the OHL’s Erie Otters has also been impressive as he had 76 points over 30 games and was seventh in league scoring despite missing some time due to injury.

As a result of the reduction of cases from 300 to 199, Leaf has noted that the insertion rates for rarer parallel cards has increased dramatically. The company also revealed that production has also been slashed for 2015 Leaf Best Of Hockey and only 450 cases will hit the market.
