John Tavares named Hart Trophy finalist

The NHL released the finalists for the Hart Trophy on Friday.

Pittsburgh Penguins Sidney Crosby, Washington Capitals Alexander Ovechkin and New York Islanders John Tavares were named to the list.

Crosby and Ovechkin have both won the award. But this is the first time Tavares has been named a finalist.

Tavares finished 15th in the league with 47  points (28 goals, 19 assists). It wasn’t so much the numbers that got him there, but his importance to the Islanders this season.

The Hart Trophy is given to the “player adjudged to be the most valuable to his team.”

That is undoubtedly Tavares for the Islanders.

Tavares’ first cards appear in 2005-06 In The Game Heroes and Prospects. He has several cards in that set, including autograph cards that book between $60 and $250.

His official Rookie Cards, however, don’t appear until the 2009-10 season. He has one of the most coveted cards from that season.

Should Tavares win the Hart Trophy, his cards could see a spike in value. He’s been on the top players since he has been in the league and a player collectors enjoy getting.

Seriously Tavares can not be taken seriously as a contender. This guy has literally no super star attributes at all in comparison to other big name players in the league.

The fact that John Tavares could single-handedly take a team like the NY Islanders & not only make the a playoff team, but a team that can go toe-to-toe with the so called “big name” players like Crosby & Malkin in the playoffs, DOES make him a contender.

Hey Larry so Tavares still working out for you? I wasnt saying he isnt a good player just not a Hart finalist in my opinion. Those awards are suppose to be for the best of the best not the best sometimes. I admit after looking into his statistical background he has faired better than I thought. Maybe next year he will be even better but I just think if your going to be put into the books as a Hart Trophy winner that you should be impeccable.
