Jasson Dominguez Rookie Card Primer
It’s going to be a while before the first Jasson Dominguez Rookie Card arrives, but the toolsy prospect is already making a name for himself in the baseball card world. The Yankees signed Dominguez in July, 2019 to a deal worth more than $5 million. At the time, he was 16.
That’s part of the intrigue when it comes to Jasson Dominguez cards. But it’s also the risk. Even if it takes three or four years for him to develop into a major league-ready talent, he’ll still arrive extremely young by any standards. But what if things don’t go according to plan?
From his very first cards that arrived in a couple of late-2019 products from Panini, the hobby has had a close eye on Dominguez. And for good reason. Many claim he’s a generational talent at the plate, on the bases and in the field. Then there’s that age factor where, if a best-case scenario plays out over the next 20 years, those numbers.

At this point, projections can go in many directions. The way early prices on Jasson Dominguez cards are going, many are expecting some very big things. Some may be comfortable with that. Others may opt out in case he’s simply “really good” (or worse) rather than “the next Mike Trout” or “the next Ken Griffey Jr.”

The concept is simple: this card takes the 2019 Elite Extra Edition Jasson Dominguez and adds a signature. It uses a sticker, but it ranks among his earliest autograph cards. It’s worth noting that while the base version is not serial numbered, it’s not easy to find as there are lots of parallels to go with it.

Jasson Dominguez has autographs in a handful of 2019 Leaf products, each with its own spin. For 2019 Leaf Flash, it’s a speckled background. Inserted in packs as a redemption, the parallels were randomly sent out with the base versions. So those who pull or are holding one of the cards could end up with some rarer color.
The Yankees prospect also has a News Flash autograph in the product.

A lot of Leaf sets for baseball revolve around more “technology”-driven designs. The 2019 Leaf Ultimate Draft Jasson Dominguez takes a more traditional approach to the autograph card. It’s on more premium-style stock but goes with a clean card stock. Foil is reserved for accents. This one also arrived in packs as a redemption.

If you’re looking for the first Jasson Dominguez autograph card, this is it. If you’re looking for the first mainstream Jasson Dominguez card period, this is it. 2019 Panini Prizm Draft Picks arrived about a month before Elite Extra Edition. The card brings a chrome Prizms backdrop, even for the base version. This means a rainbow shine throughout its many versions.

2020 Bowman 1st Edition Jason Dominguez #BFE8
Before the arrival of the main Bowman release, Topps put out 2020 Bowman 1st Edition, a sort of preview for things to come. And with it came the first MLB Jasson Dominguez card. It’s pretty much like the regular Bowman Prospects card except for a couple of small differences. First, there’s the number of the back. Here it has a “BFE” prefix. More noticeable, the front has a small Bowman 1st Edition icon above the Yankees logo.
As Dominguez’s first card in a New York uniform, it caused quite a stir upon its release. Compounding matters was the fact that it arrived in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many collectors struggled to secure packs through Topps’ online presale (it was also made available through select Topps dealers) and by the time the cards arrived, prices were much higher.
It didn’t take long for the regular 2020 Bowman Baseball set to arrive. And while that doesn’t mean that this card will get cheap, it did provide some alternatives.

If Dominguez’s first regular MLB card caused a stir, one can only imagine his first autograph. Prices for the 2020 Bowman Chrome Jasson Dominguez autograph (included in 2020 Bowman Baseball) came out massive. The combination of his age, the hype surrounding him, the Yankee pinstripes and the Bowman Chrome name are all factors. It also came out to a hot baseball card market. Typically, when you put a Bowman Chrome Prospects card next to its autographed counterpart, it can be called an affordable option. But even out of the gate, Jasson Dominguez’s regular Chrome card was comparable to a lot of solid prospects’ autographs. That doesn’t mean that it’s a rare card, though. 2020 Bowman is one of the year’s bigger products, with a large presence at both the hobby and retail levels.

2020 Bowman Chrome Bowman Scouts’ Top 100 Autographs Jason Dominguez #BTP-53 /50
Essentially a parallel of the regular Bowman Scouts’ Top 100 insert, the draw here is the rarity. It won’t be nearly as iconic as Dominguez’s Chrome Prospect Autograph, it’s still from the first MLB product with his signature. Another drawback for some will be the fact that it uses a sticker for the signature versus on-card ink.

2020 Bowman Baseball combines aspects Bowman and Bowman Chrome. That means a regular Bowman Prospects insert to join the shinier version (and the autograph). Scarcity is not an issue. Far from it. As far as early Jasson Dominguez cards go, this is one of the most plentiful.

The Bowman Chrome autograph too expensive? 2020 Select arrived at the same time, bringing with it a more affordable option. It’s got the chromium finish and a handful of parallels that are both colorful and bring some patterns. The lower print run may also be a draw for some collectors. Some of the 2020 Select Signatures Jasson Dominguez cards are live in packs, others are redemptions.

When to Expect the First Jasson Dominguez Rookie Card
Once he arrives in the majors, the first Jasson Dominguez Rookie Card shouldn’t be far behind. It’s at this point that he’ll become eligible to be part of regular base sets.
Prior to this, Dominguez will either appear in prospect and minor league releases or be an insert in major league products.
The Bowman prospect card, while plentiful, is in a set in which packs are are incredibly expensive. $12.50 for regular packs and $45.00 for jumbos!
