If you’re an Iowa State fan, you’ve loved Tyrese Haliburton since 2018. If you’re an Indiana Pacers fan, you’ve loved Haliburton since 2022. If you’re a Sacramento Kings fan you may still have some appreciation for the 12th overall pick in 2020 before the organization traded him away.
If you’re a Milwaukee Bucks, Cleveland Cavaliers, or New York Knicks’ fan, chances are you are not liking Haliburton right now. But the cool thing is, NBA fans outside of those markets are starting to follow the trend of Cyclone and Pacers’ fans, and that is leading to a flurry of sales on the secondary markets.
Although labeled at the end of the 2024-25 NBA season by his peers as one of the most overrated players in the league, the guard earned his way onto the NBA All-Rookie First Team list in 2021 and picked up All-Star selections in 2023 and 2024.
When Haliburton got to Indiana, the Pacers were in a freefall going from a 45-win season in 2019-20 to 34 wins in 2020-21, then 25 wins, but then started the rebound back to 35 victories.
The upward trend took hold in 2023-24 advancing past the first round of the playoffs before hitting the buzzsaw that was the Boston Celtics.
Widely overlooked, the Pacers won 50 games this season earning the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference but was not a pick among talking heads to be on the cusp of advancing to the NBA Finals. All the overlooked and overrated Pacers’ players have done is roll through their first two series 4-1 and jumped on the Knicks in Madison Square Garden taking Game 1 of the series 138-135 in overtime Wednesday night.
Haliburton had a team-high 31 points and 11 assists hitting the clutch shot sending the game into overtime.
An immediate reaction to the game from Wednesday into Thursday could be seen in the hobby with just about any kind of card with Haliburton’s name on it sure to sell.
Some of the cooler Haliburton rookie cards to sell on eBay included a 2020-21 Panini Mosaic Fast Break Autographs #FB-TYH Tyrese Haliburton for $130.
A Panini Court Kings Tyrese Haliburton First Steps Rookie ($22.99), 2020-21 Donruss Optic #SS-TYH Tyrese Halliburton Signature Series Purple Auto ($295), and a 2020-21 Impeccable #RS-HAL Tyrese Halliburton Rookie Signatures Auto ($400) were big sells among card collectors in the aftermath of Game 1.
Action on the court between the Pacers and Knicks picks up again on Friday with the jump ball set for 8:00 p.m. ET.
