Funko and Panini are partnering up for the launch of the Funko Pop Trading Card line.

According to Panini, the first will arrive in stores later this year with an initial wave of six players from each of the NBA and NFL.

The Funko Pop Trading Card line isn’t a set of traditional cards with a player’s Pop replacing the photo. Rather, it’s a figure and display piece that uses trading cardart to round out the design. All are packaged in a case and can be put out or hung on a wall.

The first figures are going to be based on Panini’s Prizm line.

To get an idea on what to expect, collectors can look to a couple of existing Pop lines. Funko already does a similar approach recreating album and comic covers with their trademark figures.
