Five One Piece World’s Strongest Warriors (OP-17) Cards to Watch before the August 28 Release
Bandai built The World’s Strongest Warriors (OP-17) as the One Piece Card Game’s fourth anniversary set, and the guest list reads accordingly. You have the original Four Emperors, the Rocks Pirates, and the giants of Elbaph.
English prerelease events begin August 21, with the wide release following on August 28.
Japan gets OP-17 on August 22, six days ahead of the English launch. English printings used to trail Japan by months, and OP-16 had already narrowed that to about two weeks.
Bandai lists packs at $4.99, which puts a 24-pack display at $119.76. Pre-order listings have been asking anywhere from roughly $350 to $600 per box.
Those are asking prices on a thin pre-release market, not completed sales, and nobody outside Bandai has opened a pack yet.
OP-17 adds six Pandaman variants, alternate arts that tuck Eiichiro Oda’s long running background gag into otherwise ordinary cards. They are reported to fall roughly one per booster box, on top of the usual hits, and they are very easy to miss while ripping.
Let’s take a look at five cards you should be paying attention to before the release of OP-17
Rocks.D.Xebec OP17-118 – Secret Rare
Xebec has been the series’ great off-screen menace for years, the captain who held Whitebeard, Big Mom, Kaido, and Shiki in one crew before any of them became legends.
Reveal coverage has him debuting in the card game here. He takes the Blue Leader slot at OP17-039 and this Secret Rare, a 10-cost Character with 12000 power and the Slash attribute, illustrated by Anderson.
Its On Play draws a card and plays up to two Rocks Pirates cards with different names from hand, for a combined cost of nine or less.
The Secret Rare also carries a manga treatment on top of its alternate art.
Monkey.D.Luffy OP17-079 – Manga Art
Bandai has printed manga art treatments on Characters for several sets now, but never on a Leader. This is the first, branded the Super Leader Parallel. Firsts tend to outlive the formats that produce them.
The underlying card is a Black Luffy Leader with five life and 5000 power that grants Blocker to your Characters costing 12 or more, which is the Elbaph giants archetype compressed into one line of text.
The manga version is the third print of that card, sitting above the standard and alternate art versions.
Edward.Newgate OP17-040 – Treasure Rare
Treasure Rare sits above Secret Rare, and OP-17 has one. A single card at the very top means everyone chasing the set’s rarest slot is chasing the same number.
But OP-17 also spreads premium demand across more tiers than OP-16 managed, with Secret Rares, six manga treatments, and two Special Card cycles competing for the same pack space.
More chase cards means thinner odds on any one of them.
The card itself is a Blue six-cost Newgate with 8000 power, illustrated by Bashikou, typed Rocks Pirates rather than Whitebeard Pirates. This is Whitebeard in his Rocks era youth, not the Emperor.
Loki OP17-119 – Secret Rare
Loki was the first OP-17 card to surface and has been the set’s most watched number ever since.
The cursed prince of Elbaph arrives as a Black six-cost Secret Rare with 8000 power and Giant/Elbaph typing, illustrated by Akanegumo.
He gains 12-cost, picks up another 3000 power on your opponent’s turn, and his On Play knocks out opposing Characters totaling four cost or less.
The value case rests on story position more than the board. Loki is the face of the current arc, and Xebec was a close friend of his father, the kind of connective tissue that keeps a first high rarity printing relevant.
Shanks OP17-022 – Manga Art
Shanks is the most consistently collectible name in the game, and his manga treatment is one of four given to the original Emperors, alongside Newgate (OP17-005), Kaido (OP17-062), and Charlotte Linlin (OP17-112).
The base card is a Green 10 cost with 12000 power and Rush that sets two DON!! cards active and rests your opponent’s board.
For a benchmark on where these land, OP-16’s Kuzan Manga Rare has settled around $1,100 across completed English sales, off modestly from the $1,200 range it held through its launch month.
That gentle drift rather than a collapse is what a well-supported Manga Rare looks like two months in, and the pattern is worth studying during the six days Japan is open and English buyers are not.
