First Pricing: 2014 Topps Chrome Football
By Dan Hitt | Senior Market Analyst
Beckett first pricing for 2014 Topps Chrome football is now live for all subscribers to the Beckett Online Price Guide.
By all accounts, Topps Chrome appears to be the hottest football release of the year. The number of closed eBay listings is staggering for a football product, at more than 20,000, and the total interest level from bidders is enormous.
Timing for the release was nearly perfect with top rookie Johnny Manziel being tabbed for his first NFL start shortly after the product went live. Manziel has a variety of on-card autographs in Topps Chrome and collector interest is strong to say the least. For example, Manziel’s Rookie Autograph Refractor, serial numbered to 150, features a book value of $250! That compares to other cards on the market, with a similar print run, priced at $100-$175.

Too bad there are so many overproduced base autos. I guess beckett will have those Mike Davis autos BV at $10-$20 when everyone can get one without single bidder for $.99 on the bay. Never seen a product lose so much value in such a short time. Case prices on market date $750 and now just week and a half $500. Alot of collectors got butchered on hobby cases this year and refused to buy more. Big step back without the auto limit on bases. Short print Manziel and the bunch and quadruple to the thousands of the Henry Joseys in the set.
Totally agree with Mike Pereira. I opened lots of cases of the 2013 topps chrome and even though the rookie class was filled with offensive lineman, I was happy with every case I opened. If I didn’t get one big hit, I got plenty of smaller hits. 2014 was supposed to be a great year since there are actual quarterbacks with potential, but the overproduction of the set makes it that you would be lucky to get a decent card. I opened one case where my best card is worth $20. Topps chrome is hands down my favorite product, but it’s definitely not worth it this year. Next year will only be worse since Topps ALWAYS increases the print number of cards year after year. (Five Star is proof of that)
If you haven’t bought this product and plan on doing so, I STRONGLY advise just buying singles instead of boxes. Not only has the product been completely watered down, but in the two cases I have opened, about half the cards were damaged in the same spot. (bottom right corner dinged)
Topps is losing their NFL license soon so they are trying to pump out as many cards as they can. I only see overproduction in the rest of the products they have to offer.
This product is so predictable… Bought 2 Cases of it and 3 boxes in I know where all my inserts will be.. All of my autographs have been Pack #3 on the top Left Corner of each box.. It is almost comical since it is a 1 Auto per box product.. I have purposefully opened subsequent boxes one after another: 9327, 9328, and 9329- And 60 packs in (2.5 boxes) I still had not gotten a single duplicate card… Randomize something TOPPS- GOODNESS SAKES
Is there a gold refractor Andrew lucks base veteren? Has anybody seen or heard about on of these? I believe I have one but can’t fine a single one on eBay or anywhere online?
huge fan of chrome
