First look: Mars Attacks Invasion

By Susan Lulgjuraj | Beckett Sports Card Monthly Editor

The Martians are back for another attack.

In October, Topps will release Mars Attacks Invasion, a new art set inspired by the original alien invasion from more than 50 years ago.

The base set will contain 100 base cards with 20 subset cards: Mars Attacks Masterpieces (1:8); Anatomy of a Martian (1:12), 6 Clear Acetate Cards that combine to reveal a dissected Martian Soldier ; Join the Fight (1:6), 4 propaganda poster cards; and Early Encounters (1:12), – subset chronicling pre-invasion tales.

Sketch cards will land one per box. Collectors can find Loaded Sketch Cards (four connecting sketch puzzle cards), Double Sketch Cards and Creator Sketch Cards featuring unique designs.

Other hits include autographs from Len Brown, Zina Saunders, Simon Bisley, Earl Norem, comic creators John McCrea, John Layman, Keith Giffen and Charles Adlard.

Collectors can also find themed Medallion Relics, Patch Relics, Printing Plates and 1962 buy backs.

There are four levels of parallels inserts with Concept (two per case), Heritage (1:4), Gold Foil (1:12) and John the Graffiti (1 per case).

I still like to walking around talking like the martians. I might buy some, either way the look cool.

Why??? I like Mars Attacks. I still have the complete set from 1996 and I’ve re-read them. But why continue to make the same trading cards over and over again. I just don’t get it. PASS.

Mars Attacks: Invasion is a whole new story with all new artwork. This isn’t another reissue of the same cards. Consider it the sequel to Mars Attacks that took 50 years to make. Plus they just announced autograph cards will be included as well from the all star cast of the Mars Attacks movie. I’m all in!
