Topps intends to make Platinum football cards shine this year with all its chrome.
The company announced 2013 Topps Platinum Football will be released in early September, with 20 packs per box with five cards in each pack.
The 150-card base set will feature 50 Rookie Cards. The Rookie Cards will feature several chrome parallels cards such as X-Fractor, Black, Gold, Red, BCA and Military Refractors, and a Superfractor and Printing Plates.
Each hobby pack will contain one veteran Sapphire parallel.
Platinum will include three hits per box with two Autographed Rookie Cards and an Autographed Rookie Refractor Patch Card. The Autographed Rookie Refractors will have 10 levels of parallels with Black (numbered to 150), Blue (#’d to 99), Frost (#’d to 50), Purple (#’d to 25), Gold (#’d to 15), BCA (#’d to 10), Military (#’d to 10), Red (#’d to 5), Superfractor (1-of-1, hobby only) and Printing Plates (1-of-1, hobby only).
Looking through the images, you’ll notice a couple of die-cut variations. Topps included Military and BCA die-cut ribbon autographs that can include a veteran or rookie. These cards will be limited, and there are unsigned inserts of these in Platinum.
Other autographs include Dual Autographed Rookie Cards and Hexagraph Double-Sided Rookie Cards.
The Autographed Refractor Patch Cards will fall at one per box and will include veterans and rookies. These will have several parallels, including Topps’ new Frost Refractor.
Other autographed patch cards include Dual Autographed Dual Patches, Dual Autographed Rookie Refractor Jumbo Patch Book Cards and Autographed Refractor Platinum Patch Cards.
Relic Cards will be scarce in Platinum. These will be case hits of Platinum Rookie Patches and will be hobby only.
Some collectors will get a chance to get Uncut Sheet by pulling redemptions for base cards, including X-Fractor, Black Refractors and Sapphire parallels.
All rookie images will be updated with NFL teams for release.
