Out of renowned Columbus in Miami, Mendoza’s rise to heralded college quarterback took a different path. Rated as a two-star to three-star, depending on the scouting service, the Class of 2022 prospect began his collegiate journey with the Cal Bears. Mendoza started nine games as a freshman in 2023, throwing for 1,708 with 14 TDs against 10 picks. The switch in conferences for California suited Mendoza, improving to 3,004 passing yards with 16 touchdowns against 6 interceptions in 11 games.

The move to Indiana for the 2025 season has paid off in more ways than one. The Hoosiers are the top-rated team in the nation (13-0, 9-0 Big Ten) after downing Ohio State 13-10 in the Big Ten Conference Championship Game.
