Coming just slightly too late to be a true holiday set, Lorcana: Winterspell is the next expansion of Disney’s trading card game, packed to the brim with seasonal picks and frosty-themed cards. Winterspell brings with it new friends, old favorites, and some of the best card art yet.

Winterspell Release Date

Winterspell will launch in local game stores as a prerelease on February 13, 2026, and will be available for purchase everywhere one week after that, on February 20. Though it varies by location, many game stores will have special prerelease events with bonuses and the chance to snag a promo card.

New Keyword and Mechanics

Winterspell brings a lot to the table (including never-before-seen properties, but more on those later), but the biggest change is the addition of a new keyword. The Underdog mechanic reads, “If this is your first turn and you’re not the first player, you pay 1 ink less to play this character.”

Why is that a big deal? Lorcana has always been plagued by a balance issue: the first player has an advantage, especially when you’re both racing to reach the requisite Lore amount to win the game.

Underdog circumvents that and gives all other players a chance to catch up. The card we know of so far that has this mechanic is Angel — Siren Singer, a two-Ink card that can be played for one less on your first turn, and that also has the Singer 3 effect.

New Franchises

If you’ve been waiting for your chance to Ink with all the colors of the wind, great news: Pocahontas and friends are joining the Lorcana lineup. Flit, Meeko, and Pocahontas are all newcomers to the game, and they all bring potent effects that can help turn the tide in your favor.

A few of the cards are:

  • Flit — Reflective Hummingbird
  • Meeko — Skittish Scrounger
  • Pocahontas — Following the Wind
  • Pocahontas — Peacekeeper

In addition to Pocahontas, fan favorites like Darkwing Duck are making an appearance, as well as multiple new variants of existing characters like Stitch, Mickey Mouse, and Tinkerbell. There are also new characters from those franchises, including Angel, Reuben, and Slushy.

  • Darkwing Duck — Dashing Gadgeteer
  • Launchpad — Trust Sidekick
  • Reuben — Sandwich Expert
  • Jumba Jookiba — Prolific Inventor

Card Count

So far, there’s not an official card count for this expansion, but it’s a safe guess to put it around 242 or so. The product page only says “more than 200 cards,” but Whispers in the Well had 242, as did Fabled. The composition will likely consist of 204 base cards, 18 Enchanted, 18 Epic, and 2 Iconic cards.

The two Iconics have already been revealed. The first is Pocahontas — Peacekeeper, a card with a dizzying array of colors and intricate artwork that will make it a highly sought-after addition to any deck.

The second is Moana — Curious Explorer, which features cute art but has fewer details than Pocahontas.

The two cards have outstanding effects. Pocahontas — Peacekeeper can use its ability to block opponents from challenging you for a full turn, while Moana — Curious Explorer allows you to play cards from your discard pile. After a board wipe, Moana offers a way to get those key pieces back into play.
