Elias Pettersson Rookie Card Guide and Gallery

It seems like the Vancouver Canucks have a thing for high-scoring rookies of late. In 2017-18, it was Brock Boeser. A year later, Elias Pettersson has taken it to another level, setting a club record for points in a season by a rookie with plenty of time to spare. It’s not just on the ice that the center is making his mark. No matter the Elias Pettersson Rookie Card, all have been a driving force in the hockey card market in 2018-19.

And there’s a variety to choose from. It started with his 2018-19 Upper Deck Series 1 Young Guns card in November and there has been a steady stream of newcomers in the ensuing months. Some are entry-level cards that only cost a few dollars. Some are extremely rare and have run thousands. Most are comfortably in between.

Here’s a look at the Elias Pettersson Rookie Cards that are out there, a list that will continue to grow until the last 2018-19 Upper Deck hockey card product is released.

Elias Pettersson Rookie Card Guide

The following list covers only base cards with the RC tag in the Beckett hockey card database and price guide. Inserts are not listed. Most cards will be added as new 2018-19 products are released.

2018-19 Black Diamond Elias Pettersson RC #BDR-EP /99

The 2018-19 Black Diamond Elias Pettersson Rookie Card doesn’t have an autograph or big patch swatch. Instead, a quartet of diamonds act as the focal point for the high-end card. There’s also the low print run of just 99 copies. The card’s lone parallel has just one copy as well so there’s not much in the way of alternatives like there are for some of his other rare Rookie Cards.

2018-19 O-Pee-Chee Elias Pettersson RC #611

This card is actually in 2018-19 Upper Deck Series 2 packs as part of the O-Pee-Chee Updates. The main 2018-19 O-Pee-Chee Hockey set came out early, before the start of the season and prior to Pettersson’s NHL debut. Part of the Marquee Rookies subset, there’s a bit of a throwback look and feel to the card. And that’s even before taking the Retro parallels into account.

Parallels: Gold, Red Retro, Silver, Retro Black (/100)

2018-19 O-Pee-Chee Coast-to-Coast Elias Pettersson RC #160

Sold exclusively at Canadian Tire stores, the 2018-19 O-Pee-Chee Coast-to-Coast Elias Pettersson Rookie Card holds a similar vintage vibe as the main OPC line. Despite being location-specific in its distribution, it’s not an overly tough card to find.

Parallels: Autographs, Red, Polar Lights (/99)

2018-19 O-Pee-Chee Platinum Elias Pettersson RC #151

2018-19 O-Pee-Chee Platinum puts a chromium spin on the main OPC line. The old-school feel gives way to something more metallic and shiny. The base RC remains one of Pettersson’s more affordable choices, there are plenty of colorful parallels and an autograph in the product to provide a chase.

Parallels: Color Wheel, Rainbow, Violet Pixels, Red Prism (/199), Arctic Freeze (/75), Seismic Gold (/50), Platinum Orange (/25), Emerald Surge (/10), Golden Treasures (1/1), Printing Plates Black (1/1), Printing Plates Cyan (1/1), Printing Plates Magenta (1/1), Printing Plates Yellow (1/1)

2018-19 Parkhurst Elias Pettersson RC #331

If you’re looking for one of the most affordable Elias Pettersson Rookie Cards, this is it. In traditional pack form, 2018-19 Parkhurst Hockey is only available at Walmart. There’s also an e-Pack version that has some exclusive parallels. But in its most basic form, this RC is not a short print and has nothing that makes it cost prohibitive for some. Even as a retail-exclusive card, it’s widely available at only a small cost.

2018-19 SP Elias Pettersson RC #101 /1199

2018-19 SP Hockey is a retail alternative to the much more autograph-heavy SP Authentic. The set’s Pettersson RC has 1,199 copies, keeping it somewhat low but certainly not impossible to find.

2018-19 SP Authentic Elias Pettersson RC Autograph #189 /999

The 2018-19 SP Authentic Elias Pettersson Rookie Card hails from a perennial collector favorite. Boasting an on-card signature, it also benefits from the popularity of the brand dating back multiple decades. Of the 999 numbered copies, 50 also include inscriptions.

2018-19 SP Game Used Elias Pettersson RC #200 /40

As one might expect, 2018-19 SP Game Used Hockey is a memorabilia-driven product when you look at it as a whole. And some of that comes through in this card’s parallels. But in its base format, the 2018-19 SP Game Used Elias Pettersson Rookie card is driven primarily by scarcity. All base cards in the product are numbered to the player’s jersey number. In Pettersson’s case, that means just 40 copies — 39 once you consider the final one (40/40) is an autograph parallel. That particular card has been pulled as it popped up on eBay in February, 2019.

Parallels: Autographs Blue, Red Autograph Jersey, Rainbow (/298), Gold (/499), Orange Rainbow (/117), Gold Spectrum Patch (/49), Red Spectrum Autograph Patch (/15), Snowstorm (/5), Autographs (1/1, final copy of base version), Green Storm (1/1)

2018-19 SPx Elias Pettersson RC #50 /298

By appearances, the 2018-19 SPx Elias Petterson is one of his most distinct Rookie Cards. Done with a shadow box style, it has a layered look that uses multiple types of stock and technology. With 298 numbered copies, there aren’t a lot of them out there but it’s not among his rarest cards, either.

Parallels: Rookie Variations Autographs (/98), Rookie Variations Autographs Gold (/8)

2018-19 Synergy Elias Pettersson RC #100 /9

If the SP Game Used Petterson Rookie is scarce at 40 copies, this one is close to impossible. The base version has just nine numbered copies. If you’re a Ferris Bueller’s Day Off fan, you might have Mr. Rooney’s voice running through your head at the moment. Perfectly acceptable. Bucking tradition, all of the 2018-19 Upper Deck Synergy Elias Pettersson parallels are more readily available than the base RC.

Parallels: Red, Blue (/399), Green (/99), Purple (/40)

2018-19 Upper Deck Elias Pettersson RC #248

Found in packs of 2018-19 Upper Deck Series 1, the Elias Pettersson Young Guns is his most recognizable Rookie Card. As is often the case with modern hockey RCs, the cards appeal to a wide cross section of collectors. And although they’re short prints, rarity is only a small factor in its value and reception. Demand is big for marquee Young Guns and this is a big one.

Parallels: Clear Cut, Oversized, Silver Foil, Speckled Rainbow Foil, Exclusives (/100), High Gloss (/10)

2018-19 Upper Deck Overtime Elias Pettersson RC #120

Although more of an entry level Rookie Card in that it doesn’t have any signature selling points, this isn’t the easiest Pettersson card to find. That doesn’t mean that it’s rare, though. 2018-19 Upper Deck Overtime packs are bonuses for buying boxes from select dealers. For most that means a handful of packs and not a lot of bulk. Overtime is broken up into three separate waves. Pettersson’s RC is in Wave 2 packs.

Parallels: Blue, Gold Autograph, Red (/99)

2018-19 Upper Deck Trilogy Elias Pettersson RC #80 /999

Elias Pettersson has three cards on the main 2018-19 Upper Deck Trilogy checklist. However, the Level 1 card is the most common and, therefore, gets the RC tag even if it’s not the most valuable. It comes numbered to 999 copies. The other two cards are both autographs.
