Darin Amundson, an avid visitor and ardent sports collector, recently fumbled across — er, stumbled across — what appears to be a rare McFarlane variant of Minnesota Vikings superstar running back Adrian Peterson.

See it after the jump . . .

OK, so Amundson didn’t discover it. The diehard Vikings fan actually made it himself, using a Peterson Series 7 three-inch figure that he had lying around in his personal collection.

The figure in question reveals something that has become all too familiar a sight in Minnesota — Peterson fumbling the football, something he did twice in last Sunday’s NFC Championship Game loss to the New Orleans Saints, and something he’s done 19 times in his first three seasons.

“Yes, it’s my custom job,” Amundson notes. “The ball was surprisingly easy to pop out of his arm. This is good therapy for licking my wounds from Sunday.

“I still love Adrian, he just needs to spend the summer with a ball in his hand, and Tiki Barber at his side showing him the way.”

Don’t get me wrong, I stll love AP. this was a bit of humor therapy for me. AP just needs to spend the summer with a football in hand, and Tiki Barber at his side to teach him how to cure fumbleitis. I can’t wait for August 20th when Favre decides to take another fun ride with us.

As an AP fan (and fantasy owner) I hated seeing him cough the ball up as much as he did, both in last weekend’s game and during the season. That may be the ONE thing that he needs to focus on if he wants to become one of the most elite all-time RBs. I think that he has a lot of the other necessary intangibles. And, if Minny can get Favre back for next season, I think that they still have a great chance. He is a real modern wonder, isn’t he? He’s gotta be part cyborg, haha.

All too familiar a sight? From The Big Lead (

In a four-year span, Tiki Barber fumbled 35 times. In a three-year span to start his career, Walter Payton fumbled 30 times. Peterson has only fumbled 20 times in the first three years of his career.

Peterson had a bad game and unfortunately for him, it was on a big stage. Let’s not dethrone the guy yet, eh?
