Cheap Wax Wednesday (Thursday Edition): 1991 Pro Set Platinum Series 1 Football

Pro Set’s new Platinum release claimed to be “Setting the New Standard” in 1991. I grabbed this box from my local card shop, and got it cheap, as he was trying to get rid of some items that had been hanging around for quite a while.

Finally, the Barry Sanders card back. I actually like the backs, with a nice looking panoramic action shot.

Now, were these really setting the new standard? I am not so sure about that. I struggle to get behind this design with no names on the fronts. What do you think?

I think coaches should absolutely be part of card sets.

I miss the days of the Topps Total and Upper Deck XL sets where they would go deeper into the rosters … if you’re a Saints fan, for example, the only Steve Gleason card ever issued was on a Topps Total triple player card.
