2024 Topps Series 2 Baseball just came out. Since I don’t have a box of that in hand yet, what better time to share a box of 2023 Topps Series 2 Baseball?

The checklist features a 330-card base checklist that is absolutely loaded with rookies. Francisco Alvarez, Corbin Carroll, Josh Jung, Garrett Mitchell, Logan O’Hoppe, James Outman, Kodai Senga, Spencer Steer, Ezequiel Tovar, Anthony Volpe, Jordan Walker, and Masataka Yoshida all have Rookie Cards in Series 2. Like I said, loaded.

There are also the normal dozen parallels for every card. They have been tougher and tougher to pull, though, with boxes really only guaranteed to have one Gold parallel these days. There is also a boatload of different insert sets to pull. Each hobby box should contain one “hit” as well. Most of those will typically be relic cards, but with some luck maybe I’ll find an autograph.

Pack 1 highlights:

Mike Trout/Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. & Kyle Tucker

I really need Tucker to come back from the injured list, as my fantasy team has been struggling.

Pack 2:

Justin Turner, Royce Lewis & Logan Webb All Aces (1:32 packs)

Pack 3:

Logan Gilbert, Max Meyer RC & A.J. Pollock

The Pollock is just a great photo, and I had to share it.

Walker Buehler, Corbin Carroll RC, Jesus Luzardo, Justin Verlander, Eloy Jimenez & Rickey Henderson 1988 Topps All-Stars (1:8 packs)

Pack 5:

Ji Hwan Bae RC, Christian Walker, Anthony Rizzo & Bobby Witt/MJ Melendez

Wainwright threw eight innings in the 2023 World Baseball Classic for Team USA, allowing two runs.

Manny Machado, Eugenio Suarez, Casey Mize, Giancarlo Stanton & Jose Abreu 1988 Topps (1:8 packs)

Pack 11:

Kyle Schwarber, Spencer Torkelson & Jose Abreu

Once one of the most consistent bats in the game, Abreu was just released by the Astros after a tough start.

Pack 12:

Pack 13:

A trio of rookies; Garrett Mitchell RC, Josh Jung RC & Masataka Yoshida RC

Pack 15:

Corbin Carroll RC, Jesus Luzardo, Justin Verlander, Logan Webb & Hunter Brown 1988 Topps Autograph (1:161 packs)

There it is! Autographs are not easy to come by in flagship hobby boxes.

Pack 16:

Javier Assad RC, Kyle Wright & Willy Adames World Baseball Classic Stars (1:8 packs)

Pack 17:

Craig Kimbrel, Max Muncy & Aroldis Chapman Significant Statistics Gold 52/75 (1:6,132 packs)

Wow! Tough pull!

Pack 18:

Alex Bregman, George Springer, James Outman RC, Andrew Heaney Rainbow Foil (1:10 packs) & Garrett Mitchell 1988 Topps (1:8 packs)

Pack 19:

Zack Greinke, Randy Arozarena, Adolis Garcia, Willson Contreras & Liover Peguero 1988 Topps (1:8 packs)

Pack 20:

Andres Gimenez, Luis Castillo, Andrew McCutchen & Nick Lodolo Golden Mirror Image Variation SSP (1:469 packs)

Another tough one! These image variations are usually hot on the secondary market right after the product’s release but they cool down as time goes by.

Pack 21:

Jorge Soler, Lars Nootbaar, Will Smith & Matt Olson

Pack 22:

Ezequiel Tovar, Zac Gallen, Yusniel Diaz Rainbow Foil RC (1:10 packs) & Aaron Judge Favorite Sons (1:32 packs)

Pack 23:

Joey Meneses RC, Austin Riley, Oswaldo Cabrera RC & Kris Bryant Home Run Challenge (1:24 packs)

Honestly, I have never even attempted to win on one of these Home Run Challenge cards. Have you?

Pack 24:

Dansby Swanson, Felix Bautista, Kodai Senga RC & Willie Mays 1988 Topps All-Stars (1:8 packs)

Lastly, the Dansby card back. These stay pretty consistent from year to year. I do appreciate the full career stat lines, but I am a dork like that.

Each Hobby box also comes with one “Silver Pack” on top. Even though it is on top, I always save these for last. This one had Lenyn Sosa, Sandy Alcantara, Kerry Carpenter and Eloy Jimenez.

This was one of the better flagship hobby boxes I have had recently thanks in part to a handful of tough pulls. Unfortunately, that does not always equate to value, but still fun nonetheless.
