Cheap Wax Wednesday Box Breaks: 2022 Topps 206 Baseball Wave 2

Topps 206 is back. If you love the look of the old tobacco cards, but aren’t looking to spend a ton of money, these might be for you. This is the third year in a row that Topps has released Topps 206 cards as an online exclusive. Each wave consists of a 100-card checklist, featuring rookies, veterans, and legends.

What is there to look for in Wave 2? Each 10-card pack should have two parallels. With the exception of Wood Paper Stock, each parallel is noted by a different card back. The following are available in Wave 2: Piedmont (at least one per pack), Old Mill (1:3 packs), El Príncipe De Gales (1:6 packs), Carolina Brights (1:18 packs), Polar Bear (1:30 packs), All-Star California (limited to 100 copies), Tolstoi (limited to 25 copies), Wood Paper Stock (limited to 20 copies), American Beauty (limited to 10 copies) and Ty Cobb back 1/1s.

Lastly, the Rod Carew card back. The base backs don’t have much going on.

I am not sure if this is typical or not, but I seemed to do very well on these three packs. For starters, all three packs had more than ten cards. Not only that, but all three had at least three parallels. Something I do wish Topps would do is to serial number the limited parallels. While the print runs were announced, it would certainly make it easier on collectors.

I did also order Waves 3 and 4, so I will share those here once they arrive.

If you like the look of these, Wave 4 is still available on the Topps site through October 14th.
