Cheap Wax Wednesday Box Breaks: 2015 Topps Tek Football
Topps released an absolutely massive baseball set in 1998 that they called Topps Tek. The checklist consisted of 90 cards. 90 cards? I thought you said it was massive? I did. 90 base cards, with each available in 90 different patterns. You read that right. 90 different base cards of each player in the set. Yes, some collectors have, in fact, tracked down every pattern of a single player. If that wasn’t enough to keep track of, there were also Diffractor parallels of every card. Sheesh. The set was released three straight years, however with each passing year, it got smaller.
Fast forward to 2014 and Topps brought the brand back as High Tek. It had the same acetate-style cards, but it was much scaled down from the original behemoth.
2015 Topps High Tek Football is made up of just 112 base cards. However, each base card is found in seven different patterns. In addition to the base cards, there are autographs as well as Diffractor parallels to chase down. Each box comes with just eight cards: six base, one parallel and one autograph.

You never really hope to pull defensive tackle autographs, but here we are.
2015 Topps Tek Football is definitely a fun product. At just $25 (I bought this one six years ago now), it was worth the risk. There are some big names on the autograph checklist including Drew Brees, John Elway, Dan Marino, Jerry Rice, Barry Sanders, Deion Sanders and Emmitt Smith.
Obviously, I did not hit one of those big names, but that is the chance you take. Now, to track down a box of 1998 Topps Tek Baseball to rip. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to feature that here as the cheapest currently available on eBay is a mere $800.
