Cheap Wax Wednesday Box Breaks: 2009 Tristar PROjections Baseball
Minor League May continues with 2009 Tristar PROjections Baseball.
When you think of Tristar, you probably go right to autographs. They have certainly found their niche. However, from 2006 to 2013 they tried their hands at card sets. They released quite a variety, too, with everything from minor league products to single-card boxes featuring cut autographs.
2009 Tristar PROjections Baseball features a large 300-card base set. They were fully licensed by MiLB, and have the always-fun minor league team names and logos. There are some studs in the checklist, too, with names like Freddie Freeman, Craig Kimbrel, and Andrew McCutch. Each box should hold four autographs from a list of 85 players. The biggest names from the autograph checklist? Madison Bumgarner, Buster Posey and Anthony Rizzo.

Pack 1 highlights:
No real highlights to speak of, though Lars Anderson was once a highly rated Red Sox prospect.
Anderson was ranked as the 17th best prospect in baseball prior to the 2009 season.
Pack 2:
Jordan Zimmermann & Tony Campana Green (30/50)
Pack 3:
Yonder Alonso & Rick Porcello
Pack 4:
Brandon Crawford
Three of the top names in the checklist were Giants prospects, with Crawford joining Posey and Bumgarner.
Pack 5:
Roger Kieschnick & Robbie C. Ross Yellow #ed 21/25
I just had to include the Kieschnick for the fact that the card shows him shagging fly balls in shorts.
Pack 6:
Madison Bumgarner
Pack 7:
Another tough pack. Not a whole lot going on here. This certainly happens with minor league products.
Pack 8:
Che-Hsuan Lin & Justin D. Parker Autograph
The first autograph. Parker played just three minor league seasons before hanging it up.
Pack 9:
Logan Morrison, Austin Jackson & Jake Smolinski Autograph
Smolinski played parts of five seasons in the majors with Texas and Oakland, batting .236 with 16 major league home runs.
Pack 10:
Felix Doubront
Pack 11:
Kyle Higashioka, Derek Holland & Logan Shafer Autograph
They actually spelled Logan’s last name wrong. tI is “Schafer.”
Pack 12:
Matt Wieters & Ike Davis
Pack 13:
Rick Porcello Green (26/50)
Pack 14:
Wilmer Flores, Mike Moustakas & Andrew McCutchen
We haven’t seen many current players in this box so far but this pack featured three of them.
Pack 15:
Lance Lynn & Petey Paramore Green (14/50)
Pack 16:
Christian Friedrich
Friedrich isn’t exactly a household name, but he did pitch in 124 major league games.
Pack 17:
Anthony Rizzo, Colby Rasmus & Elvis Andrus
Pack 18:
Jeff Beliveau Tailor Made Jersey Relic (114/144)
Pack 19:
Austin Jackson Autograph
The best of the box! Jackson played nine MLB seasons and finished second in AL Rookie of the Year voting in 2010.
Pack 20:
Tyson Ross
Lastly, the Ross card back. Ross did pitch for a decade in the big leagues, making one All-Star appearance in 2014.
Unfortunately, the big names didn’t make an appearance in this one.
