Cheap Wax Wednesday Box Breaks: 1993 Studio Baseball
Studio debuted in 1991 with posed black & white photos and pinkish borders. The black and white stuck around for 1992, but only for the background. The cards featured a posed color photo in front of a B&W action shot. That all changed in 1993 when Studio went full-color.
1993 Studio Baseball base cards are full-color and glossy with the normal posed player shots. One of the defining features this time is embroidered team logos dominating the background. The cards also have foil facsimile autographs.

In addition to the 220-card base set, there were three insert sets to chase in 1993 Studio Baseball hobby boxes: Heritage, Superstars on Canvas and Frank Thomas Collection.

Lastly, the Bonilla card back. No stats on these, aside from the best/worst averages. I do enjoy the personal info though.

I think this product was a huge upgrade over previous releases. I love the full-color fronts, and appreciate the facsimile signatures as well. Some of the base cards are really fun, especially Griffey. The inserts aren’t, either.
The highlight of this set, for me, is the abundance of Hall of Fame players. As a player collector, I really enjoy the early ’90s sets because they are absolutely loaded in this regard.
