CBCS Hot List: 4/21/21
I am fresh back from the 2021 SC Comicon in Greenville, SC. It was my first time experiencing that particular con and I must say I was impressed with how smoothly it was run. Likewise, I was excited to see the number of dealers on the floor. Sure, this wasn’t a flat-out comic book show, however, there were enough dealers to make it enjoyable. There were three books in particular that seem to be moving on the floor, so we will start the CBCS Hot List: 4/21/21 edition with the first of those books.
Ultimate Fallout #4 – October 2011
Without question, this was the most sought out modern book on the floor. It’s also very strong on the secondary market as well, but I’m sure you already knew that. One conversation I had this weekend was about this book quickly becoming the defining book of this era. I don’t know if that is true or not, however, I can say from what I saw this weekend, I don’t think it’s farfetched.

Truth: Red, White, & Black #1 – January 2003
Pardon the social commentary here, but I’m not sure there is a more important book at the moment. Yes, this book has ties to F&TWS, but there more to it than that. Again, this was a big mover on the SC Comicon floor, and for good reason. This moment that we are living in, and yes I am speaking of racial tension, is more than a little troubling. This book is so much more than a first appearance or MCU character. This book is a little bit of hope, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Superboy #9 – November 1994
While I am not as strong on this book as the first two, I cannot deny how many copies of this I saw come through the CBCS booth for grading. Clearly, the first full appearance of King Shark is the key here. Add that to the fact that Sly Stallone has been confirmed to voice the character in The Suicide Squad, and you have yourself a hot hey issue.

BRZRKR # 1 Variant Cover – March 2021
As usual, optioned show rights will send a book’s value soaring. In this case, Netflix won out here for both a live-action and an anime show for the title. However, there is more to this one per store variant cover than an upcoming Netflix show. This Mark Brooks cover is not only stunning but a tough find as well.

Starlight #1 – March 2014
Had I not been at the SC Comicon this weekend and saw the hype surrounding Ultimate Fallout #4, this book probably would have been in the first spot. That’s not to say it’s last here, but I wanted to end on a high note. By high note I mean it’s sold over 2000% more copies than in previous weeks. The six-part limited series has been on fire lately because 20th Century Studios has grabbed Joe Cornish to write a script for the series. Either way, it’s been crazy on the secondary market and deserves to be here.
