CBCS Horror Movie Covers: Halloween

Picture this. It’s October 27th, 1978, just a few days prior to Halloween, and the fun-loving tradition of taking candy from strangers is about to change, forever. That’s when John Carpenter’s Halloween hits movie theaters. For kids of a certain generation, it changes everything. Gone are the days of trick-or-treating. Replaced by the cold dead eyes of Michael Myers. Pure evil. The “Slasher” film is born. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the CBCS Horror Movie Covers: Halloween edition.

Halloween #1

Michael Myers first shows up in comics in September 2000 when Chaos! Comics taps Brian Pulido to write his comic book origin. A knife-wielding Myers appears on the cover looking down on the reader from above. No doubt a classic look from the franchise. However, there are three variant covers that are just as notable. Two glow-in-the-dark covers that are limited to 6,666 copies each and a chrome cover that is limited to 2,500 copies.

Untold Tales of Halloween #1

Before the release of Halloween #1, Chaos! Comics produced the Untold Tales of Halloween #1 Ashcan as a preview. There were just 66 copies of this book made, making it extremely scarce. Needless to say, this is a must-have for fans of the Halloween title.

Halloween II The Blakest Eyes #1

In April of 2001, Chaos! Comics goes back to Myers with Halloween II The Blackest Eyes #1. Limited to just 3,000 copies, this book picks right back up where Halloween #1 ended. However, this time around, Phil Nutman is penning it and Jerry Beck is illustrating.

Halloween Nightdance #1

Devils Due Publishing jumped in on the Michael Myers story in February 2008 with Halloween Nightdance #1. This four-issue series continues the story from Carpenter’s 1978 film. Written by Stefan Hutchinson and Illustrated by Tim Seeley, this series has some fantastic covers and variants. Issue #1 offered up a Crush Cunningham variant as well as a 1:1000 Bill Sienkiewicz. However, the Seeley exclusive below should grab the attention of fans of the movie.

Halloween the First Death of Laurie Strode #2

The final book on the CBCS Horror Movie Covers: Halloween edition is this variant cover of Halloween the First Death of Laurie Strode #2. This was part of a three-issue series that was never completed because Devil’s Due lost the licensing for the Halloween franchise. Jeff Zornow did the original cover, but this Peter Fielding variant is a brilliant take on Myers.
