Cardboard Tribute: The Late Leslie Nielsen
By Andrew Tolentino | Assistant Editor
With only six cards in the Beckett database, the late Leslie Nielsen never hit the hobby as hard as he struck the universal funny bone. Taking hyperbolic leaps in humor, the frequently absurd actor died on Sunday, leaving a legacy of comedic characters and cult classics.
Featured here in his 2009 Upper Deck Spectrum of Stars Autographs #LE card, the white-haired spoof master also signed sticker autographs for a die-cut variation numbered to 50. The rest of his cards from the ’09 offering are 1/1 printing plates. While there is no shortage of Nielsen items on eBay, his limited appearance on celebrity trading cards will surely (not Shirley) be a hot commodity for the history of comedy.
Good luck, Leslie. We’re all counting on you.
