I think it will be great, as I like the look of the boxes, but my opinion will be based on the cards I pull.

  2. Jeff Peveto 28 January, 2014 at 21:06

Always one of the most exciting days of the year- Topps’ Flagship release! Though I really like 2013’s clever baseball diamond design more than 2014’s busier design, I do appreciate Topps’ return to more creative, differentiated designs the last couple of years. For a while the card design looked too similar.

  3. Randy Tobe 28 January, 2014 at 22:08

The concept of focusing on the future stars of the game with The Future Is Now and Upper Class while acknowledging greats of the past with inserts like Rookie Class and the All Rookie Cup Team is fantastic. Baseball does a great job of looking towards the future while recognizing the significance of the history the game is built on; this series looks like it does a fantastic job capturing that blend.

  4. Marty 28 January, 2014 at 22:21

I think that 2014 topps looks great. The Power Players online game is going to be really cool because it has such good prizes.

  5. Robert Bailey 28 January, 2014 at 22:47

The addition of the clear parallels (#/10) makes for a great addition. Collecting the Topps Rainbow will be even more exciting considering the number of colored parallels. Can’t wait!!

  6. Lisa P 28 January, 2014 at 23:28

I can’t wait to see the 2014 set ~ Topps’ card release is a reminder the Spring is right around the corner. My hubby has been collecting for decades & now we both look forward to the annual release.

  7. Paul 29 January, 2014 at 00:18

Every single year topps start the baseball craze with the release of their long-running baseball set.
What I like the most with Topps is that, for a reasonable price, they manage to attract all kind of collector, from the set builder to the high end hit raider.
    Let’s start 2014!!!!!

  8. Sal Rinauro 29 January, 2014 at 07:15

The release of Series 1 is a mini-holiday around my house. I get a new release to enjoy, and my wife doesn’t have to hear about me being anxious for the new product. Win-win.

  9. Keith S. 29 January, 2014 at 07:20

I’ve collected Topps cards since 1978. Always a nice way to start off the collecting year. I loved their online million card giveaway and diamond giveaway, but last year’s online streak game was a DISASTER. Not refreshing, streaks not getting updated, prizes not won, lost players, players out for the year being unlocked, etc etc etc. Wondering if this year’s power players will be better. Don’t quite know what to think about another round of eye-straining diamond sparkle, alternate -photos, 2nd series numbered card in 1st series, etc. Probably will get a box but not going crazy at the moment for it!

  10. John h 29 January, 2014 at 08:25

Excited for the release but not liking the inserts. Probably will try and collect the base cards for the teams (and players) I follow but probably won’t chase the inserts.

  11. Lane P 29 January, 2014 at 09:19

So far I have only seen retail opened of Series One but I am loving the product so far. Much better than last years. Can’t wait for box busters live.

  12. Chris 29 January, 2014 at 09:48

I’m excited to collect the sparkle parallel cards for the Braves players I collect. I loved the emerald last year and the gold and red the years before that. I also like that they aren’t too rare or expensive – makes collecting them a lot easier than printing plates, low numbered parallels, etc.

  13. Nate 29 January, 2014 at 11:06

I’m really digging the new Strata cards. Overall, it looks like it’s gonna be an awesome product.

  14. Jason 29 January, 2014 at 11:16

From what I’ve seen on here so far I really like the look of Series 1. I love the Future Star logo coming back and I think they did a good job with design and really like the looks of the variation cards with the celebrations.
Hoping to open some soon once my Target/Walmart gets them in.

  15. Keith Wandrei 29 January, 2014 at 11:20

Can’t wait to get a box or 2. Like the design of cards and all the great young Twins players. Would also like to pull some Clayton Kershaw cards for PC!!!

  16. mel vork 29 January, 2014 at 11:25

I always look forward to when the Topps baseball set comes out. Looks like a real nice set this year.

  17. Tom S 29 January, 2014 at 11:37

I always get excited for the first baseball release of the year–it goes back to when I was a kid. Hopefully the plusses outweigh the negatives…the previews of this year’s offering are very promising. Can’t wait!

  18. phillies_joe 29 January, 2014 at 11:47

Awesome! Have fun as I can’t join you at 2 but I’ll check back. Very excited about Topps 2014 flagship… doesn’t live up to 2013, but it’s ok. Really like all the color and think Topps has continued to step it up with thier photography. Gonna attack Target & WM after work to see if mine have any retail out.

Question: any wrapper redemption program for Series 1? Anything we should look for in our boxes ala 2013 A&G? Just haven’t seen or heard anything. Gracias!

  19. James Robinson 29 January, 2014 at 12:06

Topps always bring the heat , the design of 2014 cards are sweet. What I seen so far these cards will bring the excitement & the flare. Always focusing on the future stars & players. Keep up the great job !

  20. Jason Duncan 29 January, 2014 at 12:34

I am very excited about 2014 Topps. I am excited for baseball to start and what makes me even more excited is being able to open Topps Series 1 packs of cards. It looks like Topps did a great job with the cards this year from the pictures I have seen from Topps postin pictures on twitter, facebook, and instagram. I can’t wait to get a box I haven’t been able to get one yet.

  21. Chris 29 January, 2014 at 12:52

Each year Topps sets the standard for it’s price point. Tons of rookies plus the chance to get some really nice hits. I expect the 14 set to live up to the standard set in previous years.

  22. Chris H 29 January, 2014 at 13:00

I really like the look of Topps this year! The base design is a little more modern than the last few years. Very neat but fancy at the same time. Also like that they brought back the Future Star label, just wish it was rainbow like the Bo Jackson days! The other thing I think is cool about this year is the inclusion of the Strata inserts! Hope I’m lucky enough to pull one of them! Excited that the new season is officially here and looking forward to the Box Busters live event today! Thanks!

From mod: Winner of Box No. 1

  23. Ian Gibbs 29 January, 2014 at 13:02

From what I have seen so far, I am pretty impressed. I can’t wait to start opening some packs. I really dig the strata inserts they have added and, of course, the SP are always fun to collect and identify. I always look forward to Topps Series 1, because it means spring is coming and baseball is right around the corner.

  24. Trevor G 29 January, 2014 at 13:09

I really like what I’ve seen of Topps Series 1, great base card design and lots of inserts and variations to add excitement/value

  25. Thomas Royals 29 January, 2014 at 13:16

Ready for the new sets and the upcoming season! Series 1 is a great way to get the fever burning headed into spring training!

  26. Greg Garrett 29 January, 2014 at 13:34

I think it’s a nice fresh look for topps. I like how they’re trying to give the sets a new look and I also like the subsets. The strata cards will be a cool card as well.

  27. Jason K 29 January, 2014 at 13:38

This is like Christmas! I opened a couple of racks from Wal-Mart last night. Got a insert of my all time favorite player (Wade Boggs) and a base of my favorite current player (Yadier Molina). I might consider chasing some of the Cardinals SPs this year (depending on how pricey they get).

I’m not a fan of the “sparkle” variations/SPs though. I know Topps did it a few years ago for their Diamond Anniversary (which I didn’t mind because it kinda made sense), but I’m just not feeling it this year.

I’ll be watching so I can get a feel for all of the inserts and hopefully see some more of the variations/SPs. Don’t enter me into the contest though, because I just won something from you guys and I want everybody to have a chance to win.

  28. Caitlin 29 January, 2014 at 13:40

I really like the design of the cards and I like the 2 Mariano Rivera cards. The red hot looks really sweet!

  29. Robert Castle 29 January, 2014 at 13:41

I LOVE seeing these new “Future Star” cards. Reminds me when I opened my first box of 87 Topps as a kid a getting that first Bo Jackson card!! I drove my parents crazy wanting more packs and boxes. My dad came across a partial vending case of 87 Topps last year and traded some car parts for it. He remembered how much I liked the cards and knew he had to get them for me! I’ve had a blast sorting these and reliving childhood memories!

  30. Trey Jones 29 January, 2014 at 13:46

When Topps releases series 1 that’s the real beginning of baseball season. I love the design this year and I can’t wait to rip into a box. The design is simple yet still entertaining this year.

  31. Austin 29 January, 2014 at 13:48

I assume that the product will look great per usual! I’m really liking the different insert sets this year. Once again a set that is all about set building compared pulling a $300 card which is great for the young collectors.

  32. Kris Graewin 29 January, 2014 at 13:53

I think Topps has really out done themselves this year. I love the way they have incorporated the past and present this year. Very excited about Topps 2014!!

  33. Marissa 29 January, 2014 at 13:55

From what I have seen so far of the retail release, I am not all that impressed. I have already seen many cards in bad condition and this set look a bit too much like a Bowman release as well. However, I am looking forward to this show in a few minutes. Thank you for hosting! I hope the hobby release exceeds my expectations. :)

  36. Adrian 29 January, 2014 at 13:57

There’s some nice insert sets and the list of short prints is nice. Also wouldn’t mind finding one of those rookie buyback redemptions!

  37. Redwings1997 29 January, 2014 at 13:58

Love Topps! It’s always been my favorite since I first opened my first pack in 86′ and I am looking forward to ripping into some packs this year as they look pretty good (hopefully without too many annoying reprints). Unfortunately, this is the first year I’ve been unemployed with no income when new Topps drops so a free box would feel like a million bucks to me! Thanks for the opportunity Beckett!

  38. Steve Ritchie 29 January, 2014 at 13:59

Always look forward to this time of year and the release of the new Topps! Gets the focus back on baseball and Spring!

  39. Mike 29 January, 2014 at 13:59

2014 Topps looks quite similar, but more aggressive. Great photos and horizontal cards as well as parallels. Even the Cespedes variations are good.

  40. Jason Adams 29 January, 2014 at 14:00

the 2014 Topps product looks good so far from all the previews. Nice inserts, cool SP surprises. It’s nice when a company doesn’t release every tiny detail and let’s the public discover some neat little nuggets.

That being said, I wasn’t keen on the design when I first saw it, but it’s growing on me.

Oh yeah. It needs sketches. :)

  41. Marty 29 January, 2014 at 14:01

Do you know how many Power Player insert cards there are in a Series 1 hobby box and/or in Series 1 total?

  42. Mark 29 January, 2014 at 14:02

Is it me or does the card stock seem a tad thinner than normal? I opened some retail, and they almost felt like early Upper Deck cards.

  43. Sam Marteka 29 January, 2014 at 14:03

Really excited about new product for 2014!!! Look forward to the sparkle variations as well as the short prints!! Can wait to go break some packs and start collecting!!

  44. Randy S 29 January, 2014 at 14:05

I love what Topps puts out every year, financially it is always hard to choose what sets I would like to collect. I buy a box even year to leave sealed until my son is old enough to enjoy them and we will open them together!

  45. Erling Crousse 29 January, 2014 at 14:07

Don’t tell my boss, but watching this at work on my cell phone!!

Always excited for another year of Topps release. Love the thickness of the trophy cards! The excitement generated from the SP’s and SSP’s are just what the doctor ordered for the hobby. Cool seeing the Buybacks!

  46. Clint Spencer 29 January, 2014 at 14:10

I like the clean look of the cards. Topps has had some of the cleanest looking cards the last few years.

  47. Greg H. 29 January, 2014 at 14:10

Always love the Topps base series. Looking forward to picking up a box later today, as well as the live case break I am joining in on on Sunday.

  48. Sam 29 January, 2014 at 14:12

Topps is always coming up with interesting cool inserts & parallels. Can’t wait to add to my collection!

  49. Matt Cantrell 29 January, 2014 at 14:12

I really like the look of the cards, the red parallel are extremely nice. The inclusion of the buyback cards is a lot of fun. I like that there is a lot going on in the set, it is getting to be a lot like ginter with tons of surprises. Good luck with the break!

  50. Mike Smith 29 January, 2014 at 14:13

You answered the question I had first up. I pulled a David Ortiz #475 and it was the only card higher than the first series. There are also 110 power player code cards.

  51. Andrew Rupprecht 29 January, 2014 at 14:18

Set looks nice. What’s the hardest card to pull, and what the hardest card you have ever pulled

  52. David Bachman 29 January, 2014 at 14:18

That looks sick, and the SP’s are even better! One of the better Topps regular cards! Wonder how hot this will make the HTA Packs/Boxes this year?

  53. Nyah Barnhart 29 January, 2014 at 14:21

Best card that’s hard uhh because I’m a huge cubs fan it would have to be Sandburg!! Pick me to sin one of the packs!!!

  54. Tom S 29 January, 2014 at 14:22

Who sets the rules for who is eligible for a standard set? Is it Topps, MLBPA, MLB? I understand the rookie designation is a result of playing time as agreed upon by MLB and MLBPA, but does Topps state that a player has to have had MLB playing time or is that a stipulation put on by MLB?

  55. rentzington 29 January, 2014 at 14:25

the cards look nice but tons of inserts and a lot of SP which seems to water down being a shortprint

  56. Meaghann Grey 29 January, 2014 at 14:27

I bought a blaster box today and so far I love this product. Can’t wait to open more!!

  57. Richard Sandanam 29 January, 2014 at 14:31

I think that this set is great for all collectors! Lots of great inserts, buybacks and GREAT PHOTOGRAPHY! I think that that gets lost is all the hoopla but photography is very important to me and most collectors!

  58. Richard Hardy 29 January, 2014 at 14:32

I think that this years design is really nice. I like the inserts so far this year. I also find it interesting that they decided to do buybacks this year

  59. chris turner 29 January, 2014 at 14:36

I will purchase the cards until I receive all of my beloved Astros. Say what you want but always been a fan of them and the end is near. Number 1 farm system and hope I pull a Jared Cosart in my first pack.

  60. Kris Graewin 29 January, 2014 at 14:39

Chris I had won a random pack lot on Chatter Up two weeks ago today when would that have been sent out?

  61. Randy B 29 January, 2014 at 14:43

Some interesting inserts this year, but not sure I care for the minis.
What can you get from the code cards? Anything?
    Thanks for the contest!

  62. RJ 29 January, 2014 at 14:43

I’ve seen yellow parallels pulled from packs . Are those only in retail and/or hobby boxes? What are the odds of getting one? Thanks!

  63. Chris W 29 January, 2014 at 14:52

Thanks for doing this! I’m looking forward to 2014 Topps w/ my son and digging for some hits. Always love finding autos.

  64. Daryle Gustavel 29 January, 2014 at 15:04

Topps Baseball always seems to have the right mix of price point, mixed with rookies, inserts, hits, and star players. Its a fun product to open…and that’s a big component that should be included in the hobby. Coming from a traditionalist, its nice to be able to collect an entire set.

  65. Matt Mayes 29 January, 2014 at 15:13

Great vids. Thanks for the shout out Chris :) Would love to win a box of these. Keep up the good work.

  66. Andrew McKay (WildEagle) 29 January, 2014 at 15:21

Compared to last year from what you have seen so far how would you compare this years Topp Series 1? Stronger or wearker?

  67. Isaiah 29 January, 2014 at 15:25

I think topps is the heart of baseball card collecting when I buy a box of cards it is always Topps

  68. Roland Wake 29 January, 2014 at 16:05

Saw the twitter announce of the Trout auto patch. Wild.
Dig the look of Topps. I’m a sucker for Topps baseball.

  69. Luke Santavicca 29 January, 2014 at 16:33

I am loving this year’s Series 1 more than last years! More better inserts and awesome new variations!

  70. Mike baker jr. 29 January, 2014 at 16:44

Topps need to be less glossy. Trying to get players to sign the cards do not work great.. I do like some of picture of special events like no hitters…

  71. Paul K 29 January, 2014 at 18:17

Cannot wait until I get my boxes for this product!! Other than the “sparkle” SPs I love this product.

  72. Jeff S 29 January, 2014 at 19:29

I always like buying a few packs to remind me spring is here, which is important this winter. The pack I got the other day had multiple cards badly miscut…I’m wondering if thats going to be common.

  73. Michael 29 January, 2014 at 19:41

Picked up a few blasters today. Not impressed with basic design. Only a few of the inserts are innovative.

  74. Justin 29 January, 2014 at 20:13

In an era when collectors fork out five dollars a pack for three cards, it’s refreshing to see that Topps still offers value in, not only the cards, but the number of cards their packs contain, as well. I like their attitude towards offering players that collectors want, and I love that the quality of the Topps cards seem to be getting better and better. I’d love to see a few more of those autos and inserts in the upcoming year.

  75. David 29 January, 2014 at 20:24

Cannot believe that after all the publicity that Chis and Beckett gives to Topps, they don’t pony over a few boxes of “free” items to them- as ridiculous as standing in line and asking Reggie Jackson for a “free” autograph- and EXPECTING one!

  76. Jordan 29 January, 2014 at 20:31

The Trajectory Autos are disappointing… just kind of ugly. On the plus side, The retail veteran autos look cool!

  77. Max 29 January, 2014 at 20:54

Always ahead of the curve! One of my favorite days of the year. Classy card design classy company. Stay golden topps! Go Red Sox!

  78. Jon 29 January, 2014 at 20:55

I really like the way the cards pop this year opposed to years past. The red sparkle parallels are really sharp looking in person as well. Great job Topps!

  79. Will F. 29 January, 2014 at 20:56

I like the 2014 set, even though the overall design isn’t that different from 2013. It’s also good to see some new green and yellow parallels to mix it up with the blue, red, gold, pink, black, purple, camo, and platinum from last year.

  80. mike raleigh 29 January, 2014 at 22:42

Pretty good design, the vintage stamped buyback cards were a nice surprise. Topps is always a fun to open product!

  81. Eddy 29 January, 2014 at 23:53

I like the base design well enough but feel like I need to see them in person to know for sure. Anyway, thank you for the video.

  82. James 30 January, 2014 at 03:15

Really like this year’s Topps cards! The New inserts are fantastic. I really like the look of them. The 1989 minis are cool, though they could be a little condition sensitive with the way they are cut,but still a great looking card. I have seen one of the gold framed rookies and they look amazing! The base card have the classic, clean Topps look to the fronts and backs. Really great stuff. Can’t wait to get a few boxes of my own.

  83. Jason Taylor 30 January, 2014 at 06:26

Base Topps is always solid. I tend to buy the factory set each year just for the sake of consistency. This year is no different. Although the designs aren’t as interesting as they were in the past, they’re clean and full of stats on the back!

  84. Cal J. 30 January, 2014 at 09:47

Love the release. Throwbacks are a nice added feature. Great job by Chris and the gang showing off the Topps baseball cards. Going to be buying some boxes soon. Curious what Series 2 will hold.

  85. Pete 30 January, 2014 at 10:03

Can’t wait until I get my boxes!! It’s been a cold and tough winter…I think Topps did a nice job this year (once again)!

  86. Jay Tysver 30 January, 2014 at 10:27

I kind of like the design on the base set. Am getting a little tired of the subsets as they are just fluff material. I do like the idea of shortprints, and love the idea of the rainbow parallels. I feel that this has encouraged player collectors. Autographs are fine but there are so many nowadays that they lose their flavor.

I don’t like the UV stuff and wish that Topps offered a plain base set without UV separately to compete with the main set. I would buy that if they did.

  87. Shane Luck 30 January, 2014 at 11:11

Another nice solid design by Topps, but I could do without all the parallel cards. That’s a pain for player collectors or team collectors like myself.

  88. tom waldron 30 January, 2014 at 11:21

I enjoy the new set every year to see what Sp’s variations and color parallels.
I haven’t opened a box in a awhile not especially fond of the Jumbo Relic metal or whatever these cards are andf I don’t see them as a “hit”.
I haven’t seen a jumbo break for this year hoepfully that will change.
Great to see Beckett and Chris and Suz doing this every year keep up the good work guys.
My last comment would be I didn’t see a Wrapper Redemp program like last year with the Silver-Slate
cards . I would like to see it as Long as the Prize cards arrive before the next years product comes out.
I finnaly recieved my Sandy Koufax Silver SLATE auto 3/10 very nice (only redemp in set).
Hopefully we can get that added to the Price Guide.
    Tom Waldron-wehvtwo

  89. weaver 30 January, 2014 at 13:34

not a fan of the 2014 design – the swoosh on the bottom + the arc with the team name makes the cards too busy. and then, i know theres not much variety you can do with stats, the backs are boringly plain. do like the inserts though: minis still a favorite, the super veterans are nice, the manufactured relics are fun…

  90. Derek Dust 30 January, 2014 at 18:56

Easter 1987 was the best….a fresh box of 1987 Topps, 36 packs of pure joy…….getting a new fresh box of 2014 Topps could just maybe melt the ice off this horrible cold winter and usher in a glorious Spring and top the Epic Easter of ’87….

  91. Justin S 30 January, 2014 at 19:02

I love the chase of the SPs but hate the fact that Topps makes 20 different kinds of the same card just change the color of the border. Topps really needs to step up their game and redemptions to compete with the other companies. The inserts are solid and I like the fact that the prices are reasonable. Overall I would give this product a 6/10

  92. steve emerick 30 January, 2014 at 20:07

topps is a standard by which all other baseball sets.. oh wait there are no other licensed sets

Photography has come along way compared to the sixties and seventies when I started collecting.

    Kudos for an excellent job!

What better way to start the new year than with a box of Topps Baseball 2014! From the looks of it Topps has hit a homerun with their newest release. Great looking photos and the borders/labeling is excellent for a change. Keep up the good work!

I’m giddy to get a box. I was a big enthusiast when I was growing up. Been away from the game for 12 years but catching the bug again. For some reason, it was a feature on ESPN mentioning that they’ll be a Russell Wilson card in the Topps Baseball Series 1Set. Was a huge Bo fan and also loved getting Jordan baseball cards. Hoping to pull a Russell Wilson!

Not too bad of a design this year, and the inserts are cool. Photography is solid. I also like the rookie / futures focus. Still unsure about the Power Player online contest. Thanks for giving us a chance to wim some cards!

I loved collecting as a kid and my son got really into it a couple years ago. Can’t wait to go through a box or 2 with him.

I love Topps and look forward to it every year. Bust a 3 jumbos and had a blast, but nothing great to speak of.

Not bad for Topps, but I lean towards more spectacular-looking cards. Love the A’s hat, go A’s!

I haven’t opened any 2014 Topps yet, but I plan on picking up a few blasters and rack packs from Target while I stop in for some drinks for a Super Bowl party later today. That being said, I’ve been looking at a lot of cards online and on various trading boards, and it looks really good! I’m usually not too excited for the yearly Topps release, but for some reason, I am pumped for the product this year. I really like the design of the set. There are still too many parallels, but I’m glad that there are Camos again this year. The single-sparkle SPs look cool, although I doubt I’ll hit any. The blacks look good (as always), red hot foils look cool, but other than that, I’m not loving many others. The golds are always nice hits, but they don’t look that great this year around. The yellows look like they tried to be a gold refractor but failed. Moving onto the inserts, a lot of them look really nice. I’m interested in the deal with the Power Players, but need to read more about it (and trade for a bunch of them!). The commerative rookie patches look kinda dumb in my opinion. The other manufactured patches/rookie cups etc look decent enough. Finally, the autos and relics seem really weak this year. I haven’t heard of anybody pulling more than a $1 or $2 hit. That being said, this Topps release has never meant to have big hits in the auto/relic department. The autos look okay, but still too many stickers. The relics remind me of the 1999 UD Ionix set- Too much going on! All that being said, I’m still looking forward to ripping a few boxes to start off the collecting New Year. Best of luck to everyone!
