Boston Red Sox Fans have Anthony and Mayer Rookie Cards to Chase

Baseball card collectors across the country have been waiting for the Red Sox to call up Roman Anthony… the voices of the diamond congregation have been heard. But while Anthony has the lion’s share of the rookie spotlight in Beantown, another rookie, Marcelo Mayer, rocked two blasts on Wednesday exciting fans about another player to chase on the secondary markets.
Anthony is just three days into his MLB career, but the hype on the 2022 draft pick is enormous. The outfielder was called up on June 9, and has had a slow start towards Rookie of the Year considerations going 1-for-12 with three runs batted in.
Mayer, the fourth overall pick in the 2021 draft out of Eastlake High School in Chula Vista (Cali.), was added to Boston’s roster on May 24 getting a start at third base. In a home game against the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday, Mayer hit his second home run of the season in the bottom of the second inning, a 424-foot shot, giving Boston a 2-1 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, Mayer went to deep right again, an estimated 417-foot dinger, for his third on the season. The 2-for-4 effort raised Mayer’s average to .250 through 15 games played.
On the collecting side, PCs have added more cards after Anthony’s call up. Topps Chrome, Bowman Chrome, Bowman Incept, Topps Now, from 2023, 2024, and 2025 sets are selling like hotcakes. On June 11, a 2023 Bowman’s Best #B23-RAY Roman Anthony auto sold for $115 (pictured below).
For the Red Sox’s rookie infielder, 2023 Panini Select autos, 2024 Donruss Prospect Jersey patches, and 2021 Panini Elite Extra Edition autos have been among the fast movers for sellers. A 2024 Bowman Chrome Gladiator #GDA-MM /50 went off the board listed at $119.99.
Another top dollar sale was a 2023 Bowman Chrome Prospects Mega Box Mojo Refractor #BCP71 Roman Anthony PSA 10 going off the digital shelf at $119.99.
